Why have they already sent out anouther found raiser for this year? We haven't even gotten the stuff from the last one and this is from the same company. Is someone getting kick backs???It just seems odd to me and hard on faimly and friends if my kids keep bothering them with new foun raisers every other day.

I already pay enough in taxes to support schools.. and I don't even have kids.. I never answer the door when some random kid shows up with a box of junk to peddle.. No thanks.

Unfortunately fundraisers are a necessary evil. Taxes do not even come close to paying for an education, they should but don't. Schools need to think outside the box on fundraisers and maybe not do the same old thing over and over. Personally, I think it's crazy to start another without even delivering the first.

this reminds me I need to go sign up for the PTO - I can't go to the mtg. . . note to self.

I really don't like that the school does this type of fundraising. My kids are not allowed to participate. I have never purchased from any of these catalogs. We will go to an occasional Barrow's nights - one or two a yr - those don't bother me as much.

What I really think we should be doing (hence the need to attend a PTO mtg and be involved) is having a donation drive. I know it sounds dumb, but when you think about it, the school is getting what 5%-15% from these fundraisers, now - the people who are involved are spending how much on a bunch of over-priced stuff they don't want. Kids are still going door-to-door when they have been told over and over not to. . .

If parents would be willing to take even 1/2 of what they usually spend on these fundraisers and donate it to the school the school could make more money, our kids wouldn't become cheap salepersons, and we wouldn't have over-priced junk at our house.

Also, there is a tax REFUND for school donations up to $250 - I need to research that a little more, but I know there is something where if you spend so much you get so much back, but the money benefits OUR kids.

Off to e-mail the PTO and let them know I want to be involved!

Good post love@hm.

Is the school really only getting 5% - 15%????? That's a rip off. I know of a local company that gives 40%!!! And a few others that do 50% I was on a PTO at my kids' previous school and I would have shot myself in the foot before doing a fundraiser for less then 40% (that doesn't include the pizza nights).

I think a fundraising drive is a great idea. Another school is every up front with costs of extra curricular things and what it costs. So at the beginning of the year the parents pay the fees for each child. If you do not then you just pay on a activity by activity basis.

I don't have kids at SC but be sure to bring up the % profit thing. If the PTO needs info PM me and I will pass along the info I have. I'm sure they are getting more then 5%-15% *crosses fingers really tight!!!*

OK just wen to the cherrydale site to check %'s because what I put was based on what I have seen previously - not direct knowledge. This company IS at 40-50% depending on the package that is chosen.

Still I prefer my fundraising drive idea better

PTO is not in charge of this fund raiser the school must be doing it on thier own. The PTO also has no say in school policy you need to go to bord meetings for that.
PTO meeting is Thurs@ 6:30pm

PTO is not in charge of this fundraiser. It is being handled by another group on campus that rasies money to be used for the students (field trips, activities, etc).

The first fundraiser will be in on October 22. Parents can pick it up at the school between the hours of 2:30 and 5:30 in the Multipurpose Room.

Here are some fund raising ideas that my school has used that do NOT involve soliciting family, friends, and neighbors:

-school book store once a week. Gather a large collection of books (teachers can order $0.95 books from Scholastic and earn points for free books; dollar store, etc) and sell the books for $1.50. If you send your kid $1.50 every now and then for a book, it is something they NEED and will USE, as well as raise money.

-School Mascots. I have no idea what the mascot(s) is/are. We order Ty Beanie baby Huskies (our mascot) and sell them to students at a small profit. The kids love having a little something related to their school.

-ice cream social. A grade level will have their music performance along with an ice cream social. Parents are coming to watch their kids perform and buy ice cream sundaes for the family after the concert.

-gift basket raffles. each grade level puts together a themed gift basket with student donated items (Movie basket might have candy, popcorn, AMC/Harkins gift cards, soda, blockbuster gift card, or any movie related items). The baskets are then raffled off at a schoolwide event.

-school carnival. each grade level hosts a booth. PTO is in charge of food and ticket sales. Our PTO also usually rents a bouncer thing - this gets a lot of tickets! This can be a HUGE money maker.

That's all I can think of right now...

I won't participate in these fundraisers either, as I can't see asking my parents to buy cheap quality, overpriced products so that my child's school can make a buck.

There has to be a better, more profitable way to make money for the schools.

If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

If the orders were turned in on time then the orders would have been here on time. So I will wait until next week to get my box of candy...yum. I have already put in my order for cookie dough and muffin batter...yum,yum. Make sure your orders are turned in on time so the delivery will be on time.

One logical reason that I thought of was that. Cookie Dough is scheduled to be delivered the week of the 26th of November. This is a typical time of year that people make cookies for the holiday, so it only makes sence to do Cookie Dough sales around this time of year. People would be more apt to buy them durring a holiday season than in the middle of Spring.

I hate the fact that my kid comes home thinking she is a failure if she doesnt sell anything, and we generally refuse to participate in these because of this, let alone the money the school gets is so small
