Alert | Goodness people. After reading her posts - I think her concern is that she would like to be in a school district where she is safe. For example- she does not want to teach in a school that would be located in a rough area of town, where her safety is compromised, and there is not enough money to get the kids the supplies they need.

Alert | Carolyn, You seem like a person with a good head on her shoulders. You didn't get into teaching for for big bucks or with unrealistic realization that all kid and parents are perfect. I 100% agree with you that all kids are meant to go to college. We need kids to fix cars and fix roads and be laborers and not all of that requires an education after high school.
Some people told me that the school district here sucks and to send them up up Chandler but to be honest the are no better. If you have a retard for a kid, I don't care if Einstein himself if teaching your kid, he will not learn. And if your child loves to learn, he or she will under the worst conditions. Santa Cruse Elementary is a brand new school and a new high school should be build with in a a couple of years.
As for our income levels, we all do pretty well. We all drive the same types of cars, live in the same type of home, shop at Fryes, drive of 347, watch he same tv shows, read the same threads of 85239.com...this town really should have been called Stepford. It'd getting big but no too big. It's going to be hard and discouraging at first, it's kind of of fun to watch new town grow.

Alert | Thanks for the encoragement.
I was beginning to think this town was full of @$$holes. But I see its not. I am living in the OC presently, I know all about cookie cutter homes, and the Stepford lifestyle. Its pretty unfortunate, but I will make the best of it. Thanks again.

Alert | | I am sorry that they put you through the ringer! Do not judge a book by its cover, there are a lot of great people here and great students! You should make your judgement when you get here. I for one love the city that I live in, but there are a lot of people that are not happy with themselves. Good luck! And if you have any questions just pm me. I have children in the schools and could answer questions. Take Care!

This is exactly how teachers should conduct themselves in a public setting. By all means, rush on over here and begin teaching immediately! [/end sarcasm]

Its VERY important that every village have an idiot, and I am so relieved that Maricopa has that covered already! <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/crazy.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Crazy' align='absmiddle'><img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/tongue2.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Tongue' align='absmiddle'><img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/laugh.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Laugh' align='absmiddle'>
But on a more serious note, all that foul language AND I have a tattoo, as well! Protect your children!
Seriously, ladies, get over yourselves. I am a Gulf War Vet, and I have more expirence with working in difficult environments, and with difficult people than you ever will. You both appear to me to be School Board gadfly's with little to do besides spout your self righteous opinions. Have a great day (if you can) and go find another person to harrass. To those that have written me personally, due to fears that these two bullies will attack you as well, I feel for you, these two are nasty!

Alert | Wow, a village idiot, huh? I've been called worse by much better people.
So let me get this straight...since I'm so slow and all.
You posted here asking for advice on the Maricopa Unified School District and the city in general (income levels, etc.) because you are contemplating moving here and teaching. Your post was, let's just say, less than friendly in it's very nature and rather condescending.
You were met with more "don't come here", than "welcome" posts.
You were given good advice as to how you are conducting yourself and how that will NOT fly here; either with the people who would be in charge of employing you or the parents of this district.
To you, this indicates the posters who were attempting to offer you sound advice, some rudely, but some in a polite way, are a--holes.
So, when it's pointed out that your reaction (childish name calling) is once again inappropropriate, suddenly the person pointing it out is an idiot for merely attempting to hold you to a standard that is desired from anyone who teaches our children, in our district.
"Get over yourselves"? Get over this, Lady (term used very loosely). You are rude. You are not a role model for any child of mine or any other. You are not welcome here if this is how you behave. You will not last here if you are too thick to read these clues and come anyway. You need to brush up on your people skills or choose another career. I can't imagine the approach you have displayed here will be welcome in any district and I am not at all surprised you are currently unemployed. I also don't believe much of what you've said here. People who are truly successful don't need to toot their own horns, because there is a self assurance that doesn't need to be shared in order to convince anyone else of one's greatness and accolades.
Go away and take that overinflated ego with you.

Alert | I am not being rude I am being genuinely concerned about this person. I would not want this person teaching my children. Of course this is a forum so for all we could know she could be very mouse-y in person. However I do plan on calling and talking to whoever I can tomarrow and whoever in the school district who will listen about this person. If she conducts herself this way on the forum, I can only imagine how she is with children when parents are not around and that genuinely scares the crap out of me. Her demeanor here is proboly proof enough of why she is no longer employed.
Please for our children and the community, go pick another place to teach! You are a time bomb waiting to go off and I dont want you here and I am not afraid to say so! It scares me to think you have even been around children. This is one parent who will keep a close eye out. I sure hope someone from the school district reads this because if they will employ a person like this to teach our kids they are in alot more trouble than I thought (or lets face it majorly desperate for teachers) but like I said, assuming this person isnt just trying to cause a ruckus on the forums (wich I do wonder) and is proboly even more of a nutjob who has nothing better to do (I hope, I wouldnt want this person teaching kids! yikes!) | | Jody

Alert | Just my opinion, but I too thought the first posting of this thread was from a person that I would not want teaching my children. It kind of struck me as a "I'm a little better then you" attitude. And if you had challenged kids in your previous classes, whether from low income, or mental abilities, I am thinking that they did not get as much attention as they needed.
Low income? No, we're really not that. Not a single apartment complex in this small City of Maricopa either. Struggling families? Well, that's everywhere. Safe....now there's the question. Were the Amish safe?

Alert | lets all mourn for Carolyn. It is on this day that she has indeed commited career suicide. (at least if she planned on teaching in maricopa) She has already gotten some laughs in my faculty room anyway. She doesn't even know she jumped off the cliff. Adminstrators read this forum on a daily basis. Don't worry people I am sure she will not be hired unless she lies about who she is. Have fun driving down the 347 everyday Carolyn

Alert | | Being a teacher myself, I can't believe that you would ever enter a classroom with the mind set that some if these kids won't learn. How sad. I expect everyone of my students to learn because everyone of their parents expect that. I expect my gifted children to make at least one years worth of growth, my "regular students , my ELL students, and my resource children. Everyone of them deserves that. If you plan on walking into a classroom with the mind set that some if these kids won't, then please find another place to live and work. Research shows that even with NO home involvement a teacher can still make 20 percent growth with a child. Check out Marzano (author) if your interested in the research.
