Someone told me a few weeks ago that another charter school AND a montessori school (thru 8th grade) was scheduled for Maricopa. Has anyone else heard this? Is there any information to this? Thanks!

New Hope Montessori is trying to open and has been planned for months. According to another thread in the General Forum, they have been met with financial struggles because they are self funded and the lender wants a huge downpayment that's already been spent on other prep work...or at least that's what I recall of the thread. I will try to find it and post the link for you here.

Thanks for the info. I am seeking out more choices for schools out here. The school year just started and I am starting to feel the stress of it.

The City of Maricopa's Transportation department wants for us to complete the half-streets before we open our temporary site. Because of the location of the school, a Temporary Use Permit cannot be given for the school because we're in the "Special Planning Area" according to the General Plan. So, we had to file for a Conditional Use Permit, where we have to take care of the infrastructure like sidewalks, curbs, gutters and 8 to 12 feet of asphalt. We tried to get the half-street requirement placed as a "condition" to be done at a later date, but the city refused. This extra expense of $300-500 thousand would not allow the school to break even, even at capacity of 100 students.

I have a meeting with the City Manager this morning to see if anything can be done. I guess you have to be on the city council to set anything up in this town.

Shannon...
Is it you or your wife meeting with the INTERIM City Manager? and what do you expect him to be able to tell you?

Interim or not, Mr. Hutchinson still has the decision making capability of a city manager, and has the final word over those who are blocking the process. The conditional use permit process is a first for the city to file for a business as others were for cell towers and other industrial applications. Because of this, there is a lot of gray area, and I hope we can work something out.

Also, to clarify, NHMS is not a charter school, but a private Montessori preschool for children ages three to six years.

Thanks for the follow-up. It will be interesting to see what happens. By the way...will you be taking older children at all?

New Hope Montessori, as NHMS said, will be for kids 3-6 years old. If you already have a kid who is 6 or older, that school's eventual opening won't help you.

Legacy is the other school I believe you've heard about. There is a thread somewhere in this forum about it finally getting started. They, too, have been met with many roadblocks, but I believe are now up and running. I am not sure the range of ages attending there.

My understanding is that there will be 2 Legacy Charter schools. One traditional and one Motessori. I believe the traditional just opened and the Montessori will not open this year.

Anyone who advocates a "one" world government, a "one" social order, or a "one" enviroment is a communist trying to take away your freedoms. Nature celebrates diversity!
