Alert | | What actually goes on at these afterschool programs? Can any parents give me a rundown? Are the kids well supervised? What are the pickup policies? How is it run at Santa Cruz Elem? Thanks!

Here's info from the program, but hopefully you will get some feedback from parents who use it too. | | Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

Alert | Well right now what is going on is half the schools are being bussed to Santa Rosa and half to Alterra Elementary because the district in its infinite wisdom did not license the facilities according to the new regulations. While they are already trying to cover their tracks, they have bussed children without notification in all cases to new school sites. Further, they are allowing people to work in the program without fingerprints until the results come back. Well forget that, my kids won't be attending this year. They always attended at Santa Rosa and loved it, but now I don't have the same trust as before. Things just keep coming up fishy, and if you ask, don't plan on a real answer.

Alert | | My child attends the Santa Cruz program that is temporarily moving to the old Maricopa Elem until the license is worked out. He loves it. They do library time, arts and crafts, karate, spanish, and many other activities. They have snack time also. You can opt to have your child bussed home at the end of the day, unless they are in K, then you pick up. PM me for more details. | | *********************** Heat beats snow!!!

Alert | | New? My wife had to deal with DHS before when she did child care and any time you wanted more than 4 kids (i think that was the number) you had to be licensed. That was in 2001. Sounds to me like someone dropped the ball years ago on this one! I'm just happy it is getting fixed cause my kids have made great friends there!

Alert | Again, I think the new director is doinog a great job, especially considering what he started with and who he has to work for. I am really bugged about the soft soap with the news story on this site. The district couldn't have written a nicer story for the problems. Why are these people being so protective. Can you imagine if this was any respectable school system with an issue like this? If this were a Chandler, Phoenx or Tempe school. It would be front page and on the TV news. Here it is a "small bump in the road".
Are the expectations that low? Is such poor performance, such ineptness tolerated due to friendships? These are our kids, why is this acceptable??? | | Anyone who advocates a "one" world government, a "one" social order, or a "one" enviroment is a communist trying to take away your freedoms. Alert | If you want to know how the big school districts would handle a problem like this, please read the thread: "What should be on the Schools Answering System" under this same heading...
I am glad the issue is being addressed and alternate plans were available. My son really enjoys the program. I am in contact frequently with the caregivers at his site to know what is going on. I think this is a very worthwhile program that will only improve with time. | | *********************** Heat beats snow!!!

Alert | | How can you blame the new director for this one when the old one didn't take care of it? He's probably the one who realized it was an issue and is trying to resolve what someone else should have done. How come Flores didn't know this a year ago and do something about it?

How's come you think Julie didn't try to do anything about it? How's come you think Flores didn't know about it?
Emails prove otherwise.

Ahhhh...no one is blaming the new director. In Fact he has been complimented on this and other threads.....
Regardless of whatever happened before Flores, Mr. Flores is responsible for what happens or fails to happen) on his watch. One or more of these schools opened after he took over. He did nothing about it including checking up on it to see that it was in compliance. Further, during the summer he was the interim director of the program and did nothing about it.
At what point do you think he should start being held accountable? 2 years? 5 years? Never? What do we pay the guy for? | | Anyone who advocates a "one" world government, a "one" social order, or a "one" enviroment is a communist trying to take away your freedoms. Nature celebrates diversity!
