Alert | Spoken with three Musd employees at three different sites and all have the same nightmare story of how they have had $ cut from there contracts this year. All three have multiply years with the district and I was told they lost 10-15% of the $ because their flies at the district level was pulled and combed through to see where cuts could be made. All three are fearful to file a grivance because of retaliation. Have any other teachers, counselors, nurses, coaches had a similar situation? Also what is Bernie Hubbards job description for his $90,000 salary? | | | |

Alert | | Equally important is that these teachers are in a work environment of fear of retaliation if they file a grievance. We don't want our children in an environment with bullies, it only seems right that the teachers should have the same consideration. The question should be why do they feel this way? And if they have indeed been in the district for multiple years, how come their files are just now being reviewed for $$ cuts? Who has dropped the ball for multiple years? 10-15% is quite a bit to lose if job description has not changed and terms in the contract have not changed. | | | |

That is becuase they allow anyone to become a teacher when not everyone is cutout to be one. To make about 45 grand a year out of collage for 9 months work s a very good wage, if you can hack it. What needs to happen is the teachers need to take more charge of their classroom. More Spanking Sticks.

Try more like low $30,000s -- with a fair amount of that money going towards purchasing materials that SHOULD be provided by the school district (but for whatever reason, aren't).
In addition, teachers' hands are often tied regarded classroom discipline. When some parents (not all, mind you, but SOME) complain about their children being held responsible for their behavior, many principals cave in and don't support their teachers. | | | |

Alert | | At MUSD in order to make $45,000 per year teaching you have to have at least 10 years of teaching experience with a Masters degree and additional hours. So, as previously stated, why are these teachers in question just now having their files reviewed? That figure is according to the district's published salary schedule. If they've been with the district all along, all advanced courses should be approved and verified before being confirmed for pay. If they are new to the district but claiming experience, that too should have been verified at the time of hire. Something sounds fishy. | | | |

As your misunderstanding of the money issue has been addressed, I will deal with the "teachers need to take more charge of their classroom" comment. In my 30 years of teaching I witnessed a steady erosion of teachers power in the classroom. School boards with no backbone, administrators who wanted to keep their jobs and pacify parents, parents who had nothing but perfect kids and had lawyers on speed dial, judges who sent violent disruptive punks back to school, and kids who had never had to do anything that they did not want to do in their lives, all combined to strip teachers of much of their power in the classroom. Thats why I say "try it sometime". | | | |
