As I was driving south on McQueen Road this fine afternoon, in front of Willis Jr. High, I noticed that they had 15 mph signs and a crosswalk across a busy road. Now if these signs and a crosswalk can be placed on  busy McQueen Road I think we can talk our city council or school district (whoever we have to petition to) to place signs and crosswalks across our busy roads.

By the way, McQueen is a four lane road with a median, just like honeycutt.

I agree that a 15 mph zone on Honeycutt would help for the short term. But what is really needed is a pedestrian bridge for the Senita kids to cross Honeycutt. Traffic could then flow without being slowed down by a traffic light or 15mph speed limit.

A 15ph zone and a crosswalk are cheaper than a pedestrian bridge.  The school has bus service from Senita, if you choose not to use it, then what you complaining for?

The last thing we need in VRED is an easier way for the Senitans to get to our pool, tennis and basketball courts.

For crying out loud, the city of Phoenix has a crosswalk and 15 mph school zone across baseline road in front Chavez high, every school has a crosswalk and speed zone no matter how busy the road. The fact that Honeycutt is an arterial road should have absolutely no consideration for not placing a school zone there with a crosswalk. Way to go
Maricopa Govt and school board, we are putting childrens safety behind traffic slowdowns.

Yes it is cheaper than a pedestrian bridge....until someone gets killed.  Why not do it the right way for the safety of the kids.  A plan should have been in place long before the school was opened.

Maybe we should pay a few hundred thousand to do a study on the feasibility of a crosswalk and calculate the estimated driving delay of a crosswalk in comparison to the delay caused by an ambulance picking up a child that has been struck. And then we can build a second airport behind the school and fly the kids in.

Or better yet, now that hunting within the city limits is legal, maybe some stray bullets from the hunters will eliminate some of the pedestrian traffic and therefore save the city the expense of the yellow paint needed for the crosswalk.

Ride the bus?? What if all the Senita folks took the bus to the VRED Pool, tennis and basketball courts RichTig?  Seriously, the bus is not the answer because most kids  do not ride the bus.  Crosswalk for the short term and I think most people would agree long term fix would be a pedestrian bridge.

A pedestrian bridge is not the answer, a light is, otherwise no one would be able to make a left hand turn out of Senita, that is why a light is going up in the first place. How long can it take to put one up? They should have been working it all summer, they could have even blocked off that whole street to do and made people use the other entrance.

By the time they build a pedestrian bridge, your kids will be in high school.

That's a good point.  It is tough making a left hand turn and will only get worse as the traffic increases.

A crosswalk (with a crossing guard) and a 15mph zone is more than enough safety.  There are many schools that don't have their own special turn signal.

If the district is offering a bus to all the people who live across Honeycutt then the kids should ride the bus or the parents should make other arrangements. The district is looking out for the safety of the kids.

Honeycutt is NOT the place for a pedestrian bridge. It takes money, and there are many other things the city needs before anything like that - especially considering the district is providing transportation to those who need it. Again, if people are not using the bus - they really cannot blame anyone but themselves for the safety of their children, as the district has provided a viable option.

A school zone and a crosswalk is a decent option with or without a bus. A little paint, a few signs and a volunteer crossing guard is not going to over extend the district or the city. It will however, impede on the traffic. So-be-it, there are plenty of other schools along main arteries with school zones and heavy traffic. . . there again, while I would support it, it is not necessary considering the bus is available.

Why is everyone pushing for a light when stopsigns would work just the same? They put stop signs up with a crosswalk on the corner of Saddleback. The biggest problem is the fact they don't consider the street in front of the school a school zone, only the side streets.

A four way stop is better than nothing at all.  At least until the light goes up.  The only negative with a four way stop is the traffic will get backed up especially as the area gets busier.

Some sort of traffic control is a better option.  We've already established the bus is not the best option because not every kid will be taking the bus.

4 way stops don't work as well when there are 6 lanes of traffic and kids trying to cross and people leaving for work...lights control taffic better in those situations. Especially when people DO NOT observe the 35 mph speed limit.
