does anyone know what the cutoff birthday for their early kinder program? my daughter is turning 4 on september 13th. but i noticed for their kinder, it said the kids have to be 5 by sept 1st to get in. so, do they HAVE to be 4 by sept 1st for early kinder? i emailed them but don't expect to hear back until later this week.
i realize i put this question on the other charter school thread, but this thread seems to have the most traffic.

i think most if not all early k programs state a child must turn 5 by dec 31st. so your child should be just fine, my DS and a dear friends DD both went to a MUSD pre k program and thats how it was. i believe LTS does in fact have an early k program, keep us posted

don't you mean they have to be 5 by dec 31st for regular kindergarten? early kinder is usually for the kids who miss that deadline b/c of a late birthday. i just don't know if the child has to be 4 by sept 1st for early kinder, or even 4 by dec 31st. i can't find any info about early kinder on legacy's website, but it briefly mentions it in the new location section.

no the early k is for kids who turn 5 between september 5 or whenever-dec 31st. that is what early k is for, in prior yrs those kids would have had to wait until the following school yr but now they are able to go to early k which is basically k although at LTS kindergarten means 1st grade material. it can be a little confusing sometimes. basically if your child turns 5 by the designated cutoff in september set by the state board of education or whatever, then they go to kinder. if your child turns 5 between that cutoff date in september&dec 31st then they go to early k although i thought i read where MUSD just opened kinder up to any child turning 5 in the calendar yr in which the current school yr begins. Make sense? basically a child who does not turn 5 in the same calendar yr in which the school yr starts, ie a 4 yr old child who turns 5 11-27 of this yr can in fact attend early k. a 4 yr old child who turns 5 8-12 of this yr would attend regular kinder.

ok, i think i've got it. basically, my child has to go through one year of preschool (this coming year) and then can go to early kinder being a mid september birthday and then kinder the following year. that is for legacy. but if she were in the musd, and they decided it was fine for her to go to regular kinder if they went with a dec 31st cutoff, then she could go to preschool this year and regular kinder the next. ??
