recently i have heard reports of gang activity in the schools of maricopa. even in the grade schools. they mentioned the 'bloods' and the 'crips'. does anyone know of this type of activity happening here???
i am moving into town soon and am bringing my 2-1/2 yr old son with me, and this is the last thing i want to have to worry about.

Honestly, I think gangs are everywhere. Maricopa has grown quickly, and the schools have grown as well. I have trouble believing you can go anywhere now adays where there is not some type of gang activity. My choice is to get involved with my community and with my schools so I am fully aware of what is going on. Maricopa is a great place to live. Welcome!!

Getting involved is usually what you'll hear around here but what exactly does that mean?

The fact is there is gang activity around here but it's not like you're in LA or anything like that. At your sons age you won't have him exposed to the gang activity. As he moves up in his age and attends the schools here he may eventual run into things of that nature unless the school district does more than they are doing now.

The kids here that have been caught in gang activity recieved what amounted to a slap on the wrist.

Add to the fact that the teachers of this community currently face a 40/1 ratio and the Superintendant expects that number to grow.

I will be posting another topic in the up coming days prior to the new school year that illustrates the current state of affairs using the superintendants own words.

This community has much to offer and some terrific people. Find a way to meet people and stay informed, that's the best advice I can give!

Due to problems with the migration I had to change my name. If things get back to normal I would like to use my previous screen name...

A few have inquired about the name so I;ll explain...

phantom.... you would not know what a fact was if it came up and slapped ya in the face! you should change your name to Eris, the Goddess of Confusion, Chaos, or Tartarus, god of the sunless and terrible region beneath Gaia, the Earth

Without giving out the names of the minors involved, could you please provide for us the details of how each offense was handled? I can't wait for the facts! I have been waiting for such illusive items from you. Facts ... we want those facts you seem to keep from us all the time! You do know what those are don't you?

I understand people are concerned about the gangs, but here it is.
Be the best parent you can. ask questions, know your childs friends and family.
Dont be in denial when you kid is accused or involved. I hung around kids like this and work with them now. Dont be oblivious to what goes on around her and dont be afraid to stand up to these little thugs.

Phantom78

It would be interesting to find out if you have ever actually gone over to the district office with all of your free time spent posting and spoken with Dr. Flores? Just curious...

What good would that do...maybe he'd listen (lol) The man hides behind his deception.

What a crock! In another thread you admit that you are afraid of the truth by not seeking answers from those you are so willing to smite while hiding behind your own deception! I would love the chance to prove you wrong.... I am just waiting for those so called "facts" that you claim to know about.... bring it on! Let us hear about anything that is fact about this "slap on the wrist" situation as I formally suggested Again, without names of the minors..... I want to know the facts!

I can't make the attempt to prove you wrong until you actually give me the facts you seem to have so abundantly.... or did you misplace them somewhere? You are the one who makes all the claims about know all about it.

I think the slap on the wrist he's talking about is that only the one arrested for bringing the gun will never be allowed to return to the district.

When I was in Maricopa High School, my ex boyfriend had brought a gun to school (he was a so called "crip").. I had told the principle (Yes.. I was a rat.. a rat who cared about if he shot at a "blood" and hit another student..) and it wasnt just a slap on his wrist. During lunch they held him in the office untill the police had gotten there. If I remember right, he had been in Juvi for about 6 or so months..

Last post from me tonight.... Phantom mentions Kids.... how many and what happend... Phantom has all the facts and won't share with us.

I would like to know the number of teachers currently employed as of the last board meeting and the number of enrolled students so I can understand this ration in all the classrooms. Does Phantom include teacher aides in this ration too? Just looking for the numbers to support. I know.... what a novel idea... I will make a call to the HR dept tomorrow and find out how many teachers and aides are starting then see if the registrar can tell me how many students.w we will see if the 40/1 exaggeration is consistant with Phantoms previous "facts"<img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/hehe.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='HeHe' align='absmiddle'>

Thank you SOOOO much for being brave. This is sincere. Your actions were bold the community and us parents and grandparents thank you. Peace to you and your family. I hope there are many more students attending like you! No matter how vigilant the empoyees of both MUSD and the City of Maricopa can try to be, it will be it's citizens who can make the biggest difference. I hope your parents have told you how proud they are of you.... If not, please know that I am.
