Did anybody see the latest AIMS test results? Doesn't look too good for Maricopa schools.

Do you have a child who took the AIMS test?
Mine did, and scored very well, even though he attended a Maricopa school.

my daughter scored 95% on her AIMs and went to 2 different maricopa schools this last school year because we moved into a different subdivision.

Looks like Pima did very well, So why the non Renewal? Apparently quality leadership is not something Flores looks at when making decisions. People who are successful in their choosen profession recognize others who are doing things that make them successful. That may be the reason Flores is unable to recognize when he has something good. Maybe that's why he has a personal history of non renewals. I've included two links below to see the results by school. (page 24)

I'm thinking he could have used the person running Pima could help him and the district with a successful school improvement plan.

Philosophical differences=Threat

Yes, I have a child who took the AIMS test and also did very well.

You can get the results by going to the Arizone Department of Education Website.

I think a lot has to do with the children as well. My daughter attends Kyrene Schools and unfortunately she did terrible on the AIMS test. My son on the other hand went to the same schools and he did great. I do think she is starting to slide through the cracks since she is not a trouble maker student but as a parent I am staying on top of it. I think there are a lot of factors that go into why kids aren't doing great and don't think it is necessarily only the school district.

I think it would be interesting to the results by nationality. The NCLB scores must be considered when evaluating all assessments.

When reading AIMS results, you must take care to read the trends underlying the results. You cannot take one day in your child's life and say my child did not learn or they did. My children were at Santa Rosa and did moderately well.

But looking at the comparisons, how in the world can you justify a non renewal based on philosophical differences when Pima Butte clearly did excellent under Lowey's leadership as far as AIMS scores show.

You also need to consider that AIMS tests are benchmarks for education levels and the majority of the kids testing in MUSD received the education on which they are being tested, elsewhere.

Until Maricopa schools have educated the same children for a number of years, it's never going to be truly a accurate reflection of the success or failure of the MUSD curriculum.

Good Point, I suspect with many leaving the district that will have an impact as well.

Are you willing to sacrifice the education of your children to get an accurate reflection of MUSD abilities? I recently found out that a 5th Grade classroom in one of Maricopa Elementary schools currently has 35+ students enrolled at this point(in one classroom!!!). How many more will be added in the 2 1/2 weeks left before school starts?! Is this a quality learning environment?

Kyrene offers open enrollment. They accept children with various backgrounds and school systems. They are accepting hundreds of Maricopa children. They don't feel the need to educate the same children over a number of years to show success.
