There hasn't been any posts or news on the status of the Montessori school that was to come to Maricopa. Last I remember hearing was that the city was running major interference on the progress of bringing this much needed operation to the city. Is that a go, or did the city, in their brilliance, once again derail another business from coming into Maricopa?

There is one right next to city hall. Its call Legacy Montessori if that helps. The one that you are referring too did get run out of town by that very easy to work with city council.

Go Eagles, I am referring to the New Hope Montessori school which was trying to be spearheaded by Kari and Shannon Johns. I certainly hope that your comment "very easy to work with city council" is sarcasm.

Legacy is only a preschool it is for ages 18 mos to 6 yrs

maricopa jjn, The Johns are GREAT friends of mine. Due to all the trouble the city was putting them through they had to pull the plug!

This is just too sad how the city seems to brought with it a tsunami of driving businesses away! Watch for my post on future of maricopa topic.... Maricopa Growth Council. Bringing evolution & revolution to Maricopa!" I am spearheading a grassroots campaign to bring accountability to the city council on justifying their decisions and to help assist small businesses navigate the red tape of the city and starting lobbying campaigns to bring more business here. I think there is enough blame to go around, and the lion's share goes to the John's. City regulations are what they are and no business is allowed to get around them. The John's tend to forget that they were trying to establisha private business, not a government entity and like a private business they are obligated to provide their own infrastructure, road improvements, access, appearance requirements etc. These things did not change for the Johns though they tried and failed to get them changed. That is where the John's failed, in planning. All the other shoppimg malls, stores and other business had to provide the same kind of stuff, an rightly so, because for profit enterprises should not be subsidised by the city tax money. I would want a walmart or a bank to provide the same sort of needed road upgrades, landscaping and even a stop light if necessary due to the impact of the business being there. They were asking for an exception for their business and it was rightfully denied. Again those things the city kept demanding should have been part of the business plan and if more money was needed than more money should have been raised before starting. If the John's recieved bad advice then they should go after whoever counseled them. It is sad that their school is not able to open but that is not the fault of the city. Blame the real cause and in this case it is not the government....for once.

Pepperdog, you seem to know an awful lot about the John's situation. However you do not know ALL. I cannot speak for them, but I do know that you obviously only know one part of the issue!!!

That is really an unfair remark made by you against our city. The majority of the trouble the Johns had were caused by the Johns themselves and it is time that the city stop being blamed for their failure. They may be nice people and great friend of yours but they made mistakes and should own up to them. They tried to take advantage of the city by requesting public standing for their private business. Again, It is sad that their school is not able to open but that is not the fault of the city. Blame the real cause, blame the John's.
