Thanks! It was a lot of fun. Our crew and all of the volunteers deserve some kudos. One child fished out "Big Ed," a 20-inch catfish. Hopefully Big Ed will lead a prosperous life in that lake.

I just don't understand why killing/harming poor fish is something that is celebrated as a community event? I don't know why parents get off on teaching their kids to have no respect for other living things...

And, I really don't like my tax dollars funding such events. Since I know I'm in the minority, I don't raise a fuss over it.

Wouldn't it be more constructive and compassionate to have a contest that doesn't involve killing and maiming? Maybe softball, basketball, sack races?? ANYTHING?

Beer League, why do you celebrate a man who is a chronic user of alcohol, drugs and other body dehabilitating addictions?

I don't understand why some people choose to have avitars with questionable content and fail to see the value in a fishing derby that promotes catch and release. If done properly, the fish will survive and all is well.

Of all the things to whine about...seriously. The City is trying to do something well and you want to throw stones?

LOL! My avatar is just a picture of an obese, out-of-control comedian--no need to read into it a bunch of irrelevant garbage to try to deflect from my original comment.

I take senseless killing and maiming of defenseless creatures very seriously. I am simply questioning how this is a worthwhile family pursuit, when there are so many other positive things that families can do together.

Do you have your house sprayed for bugs and termites? When was the last time you killed a fly?

Just because they are small creatures, do they not have the right to live?

Don't get me started... whens the Father and daughter Dove hunting begin? anyone... anyone?

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

Actually Sinbad, I don't have my house sprayed for bugs. I keep a clean home so I don't have a lot of pests. I catch the crickets and put them outside. I leave flies alone or shoo them out the door. I am looking into organic methods of pest control (that will not kill them, but will keep them out of the house).

Also, I don't wear leather, have a leather sofa or leather seats in my car. What other silly questions do you have?

I walk the walk, Sinbad.

Too bad your kids have to learn to kill living things for entertainment <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/sad.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Sad' align='absmiddle'>
