Should Maricopa even have this type of event with the current financial state of the city??

Absolutely! Founder's Day is the one day of the year that all us 'Copans can get together in a pleasant atmosphere. I've even got friends and family that are coming in from out of town to enjoy the festivities.

Lighten up a little and let your hair down, next year could be a LOT worse!

Founders Day has come a long way.

The first one we all walked over to the Duke and there was a speech by Mayor Anderson.

Not much to it, but all of us that worked to incorporate the City were there, no to many other folks.

And you will have to excuse Dummer.  She hates everything.  Miserable little angry person.

Ahhhh...but it's not the ONE event. What about the Salsa Festival and the Great American BBQ in July?? I know the city gets some sponsors for these events so the total cost isn't covered by Taxpayers, but I just don't think keeping all of these events is necessary when housing permits and other income sources for the city have weakened. Don't get me wrong...I've been to all of these events and yep, they are a good time. I just don't think having three of these events per year right now is the most fiscally responsible thing to do.

If money is an issue, then they should look for corporate sponsors.

How does the Subway Maricopa Founder's Day sound?

Sounds good!  Just write the city a check for $100,000 and its a done deal.

According to the web site, shuttles will start picking up at 1:30pm and the gates open at 2pm. Concert by lifehouse looks like 6pm and then fireworks. I'm guessing it should be done by 730pm or so.

While Lifehouse isn't exactly my cup-o-tea. I suppose the wife and I'll go and check out the Founder's Day happenings.

I totally agree. Its when the community comes out and has some fun. Meet new people, have fun with the family, take pics and share them with everyone.
