I went in Xtreme Fitness a few weeks ago to compare rates and the smell nearly knocked me over! It smells like B.O. covered muscle men poured pitchers of sweat all over their bodies, wiped it off with a hand towel and stuffed the hand towels under the rubber mats on the floor and left them there for appx. 1 yr. You couldn't pay me to go there, sorry. I'll have to stick to my pilates machine until Mountainside opens. I am really looking forward to the childcare so I can stay there for hours!!

I somehow doubt that closing as soon as Mountainside opens is really part of the business plan of Xtreme. I'm sure they will at least give it a go and try to compete.

Just curious for those of you who have checked out the rates of the different gyms, how competitive are they?

The reason why many gyms dont do the swimming pools is due to they are expensive to maintain, high liability and many times are not being used. Many clubs starting since about 10 years ago are doing more of the dry clubs. Plus it keeps the membership rates lower as well. MS does the same thing.

The large Aquatic and Fitness center I used to work for did killer on their memberships even with the pool. Also, they had an outdoor water park. It was a great way to keep the teens busy during the summer as lifegards. The liability was not as big an issue as one might think. The facilty I worked for inforced extrememly strict rules for both the indoor and outdoor facility. If you did not follow what was written in your contract you were OUT! Never had big issues.
