My sources tell me Walmart's feelings were hurt because of all the nasty things people have been saying about them here and now they are having second thoughts about Maricopa.'

Thanks,
Higgs

Liberalism and capitalism address themselves to the cool, well-balanced mind. They proceed by strict logic, eliminating any appeal to the emotions. Socialism, on the contrary, works on the emotions, tries to violate logical considerations by rousing a sense of personal interest and to stifle the voice of reason by awakening primitive instincts.

Well, there are traffic lights and paved entrances... still all dirt in the parking lot, but it is starting to LOOK like a parking lot... no buildings yet though.

Interesting...I have just been reading that people were ready for them to build and come already and have been "hurt" because Walmart doesn't think that the current population is worth [big enough] for a store right now. That's intersesting. I wouldn't even think that Walmart exec's would look at 85239.com as a source. If anything, I would have thought they would hear our cry in the desert!

It's the parking lot for the tractors and bulldozers.

The Maricopa Wal-Mart is out for bid to general contractors.  This week was the deadline for bid submission to the GC's who want to compete.

There are more people working on the QT, than that "Walmart".

Well, with the gas prices going the way they are, why wouldn't they put a rush to finish the QT!

Mrs. AzPilot06 works for one of the big GC's that are bidding on the contract

There won't be any substantial work on the site until a General Contractor is selected, as they coordinate all of the development and sub-contractor assignments.

when do they want to be open? how long until real progress starts? I understand there were some delays, i wonder how far back they are from the original 11/08 date they wanted.

Good questions all of them.  I'd imagine not much will happen until they pick a General.  In the particular case of this General, they're currently building 2 or 3 other Wal-Marts in the valley, and my understanding is that they go pretty quickly once they start.

Very true!  If they finish in a month, they should be able to get 4.50 a gallon from us. I wonder if they will have 69 cent 32 ounce'rs?

My thought will be that we are looking at a year/year and a half before the doors open.

I don't know, Walmart has a pretty efficient system of constructing new stores. I don't think we will be doing any christmas shopping there,  but maybe picking up some valentines cards in our walmart....

I know they can be fast but I have seen how fast the land has been upgraded and that is what leads me to think more like a year.
