Alert | | the railroad tracks are "historical" so they will not re-route them or build walls for them due to the fact you put a wall on the south bound side where homes creep closer to the tracks then people on the north side of casa grande highway will get it into their heads "if they get the wall we should to" so lets just tunnel the WHOLE train track and forget when you bought your home you knew the train went through maricopa. Also someone put it best in a previous thread that sill seemed to get over looked A 2nd track. I'll deal with one but 2 NOW YOUR TALKING NOISE and higher traffic flow on the tracks. | | it takes a village to raise a child, and I don't mean the villages at Rancho El Dorado

It depends on the material with which the wall is constructed, at least on the outside. There is acoustical material that can be put on the side of the walls to absorb sound waves so that they don't bounce off. This is commonly used inside buildings such as auditoriums and gymnasiums so that they don't echo. | | Chris Thudium "If you look for the bad in people expecting to find it, you surely will." Alert | Back East where I used to live, there was a train that ran through the community. We all knew it, and it you owned a house near it, you simply lived with it. You knew where the train was when you bought, why complain now? Just curious.

Alert | Sound walls would just be a place for grafitti, Vegetation would be ok, but either lowering the tracks.....or raising the road would be best. Just my 2 cents.

Alert | | In NY, there are sound walls along the major highways. I never thought much of them until we went into the backyard of a house with a wall about a house and a half away. I was impressed with how well it cut down the sound. The wall looks beautiful, too, with a terrific design that matched the island, seagulls carved into it. | | I loathe people who keep dogs. Alert | | Its unlikely that any of these will happen do to the high cost. Its funny, if I happen to be awake late at night when a train comes I can hear it very clearly, but if Im sleeping I never wake up because of the train. I cant say I really notice them in the day most of the time. Personally I think there are higher priorities to spend $$$ on. | | Liberalism and capitalism address themselves to the cool, well-balanced mind. Alert | | Who is going to pay for this. If the train noise bothers you, then you should not have bought near the tracks.

Graffiti was EXACTLY what I was thinking. Also, the other side of the wall would be a great place for people/animals to hide and get hurt. I don't think I like the wall idea at all.

Alert | The second track has been in the works for years, so it isn't as though it came out of nowhere. Union Pacific discussed it openly, it was part of their plan to add capacity to the transcontinental line that runs through our town.
Lowering the tracks is called "trenching" and is extremely, extremely expensive. They have these in places like Reno and south Los Angeles, both were plagued by massive cost overruns and long delays. My hunch is that folks who are irritated by the train noise or traffic backups now would be absolutely miserable in the wake of a massive project like that. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'>

Alert | There are better ways to spend $$ on than on Walls. I agree it would be a Target for more Grafitti. Plant some big trees to absorb the sound.

Alert | | I don't mind the "noise." I do hate it when they have a train "waiting" its turn and then starts at a crawl. It takes a long time for the train to get through because it is trying to get up to speed. Maybe the second track will keep that from happening.

Alert | | I dorve through Salt Lake and they put up sound walls along the freeway. They have a nifty mountain design, but you don't see the real mountains. Alert | | I am so confused. Did you not look around town when you decided to purchase a house? And if you did how did you miss the train tracks that you are complaining about?
