I would LOVE to see a Lifetime Fitness open down here. Won't happen but it would be awsome with Raquetball indoor pool, water slides etc.... LA Fitness would be nice as well.

BUT WALMART, ACK... drive the 25 miles to Chandler and save the community. Walmart is argueably the world's largest and most profitable retailer where ,dealing out low wages, unpaid overtime, and union busting are a way of life...

If Homedepot and Walmart show up you can say by to ACE, and most of the mom and pop stores.

I will post a bit from a site I found, yes they are opinions and yes they are like well you know...
If a town declines to welcome GodzillaMart, the next town over will take it, pulling trade and tax dollars out of local coffers. The town has no choice - the terms are dictated by the retail giant from afar. Is this right, fair, or decent? Is this Middle American family values? No more mom and pop stores here. The nation is being covered by a Wal-to-Wal-Mart carpet, the nation blanketed not with daisy chains of wildflowers, but something more like kudzu. Welcome, Weed-Mart.
Big businesses put their money in big banks, taking it far out of town. Money spent in a chain store leaves town on the next electronic transfer, while money spent in a local store circulates in the community seven more times before leaving. In other words, chains use local workers and consumers as a colony, extracting their wealth and exporting to the mother country. Sound familiar? Can you say American Revolution?

From some persons rant that makes valid points.

I am completly against a Walmat showing its face in Maricopa. I would rather drive to Chandler if needed.
My 2 Cents.

Bring on (Super)Wal Mart ... bring on Home Depot, LOWES, Bring on KOHL's, Old Navy, Pier 1 Imports, Bath and Body Works, Borders Books, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Payless Shoes, AMC Movie Theater, Target, TJ Maxx, AMF Bowling Alley, Ross ... IHOP, mortgage companies, hospitals Get the point? Our property values will go up, up, up, we'll have places to work, play, shop, be entertained .... wow! We'll be a City! With things to do, places to go and people to see ... we'll be more than just a place people pass through from the 'City' to San Diego, where the tourists say "wow, who would live all the way out here?" We would be a place!!! The very idea of suggesting we drive to Chandler to frequent a business, and then not want that very business to open it's doors in your own town makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER!!!! Like I stated on another thread ... All the stores mentioned above will follow stores like Wal Mart here .... and would turn Maricopa into a place to stay, spend money, live, work and be. I DID NOT move here and I'd even wager most Maricopans would agree, they didn't move here to continue to shop and spend money and drive to Chandler ... we moved here for the potential, what it could be... what we're hoping our little City will become .... and that my friends is progress, we're pioneering this City ... turn your houses into something valuable ... a place others would covet ... by suggesting we frequent Chandler simply makes Chandler a place people should live, not here ..... like I've said before ... wake up and smell the big picture!

i heard this same wal-mart debate living up in winslow. we had a walmart, but they wanted to replace it with a super walmart. well, the super has been open just about a year now, and when we were up there about a month ago, safeway and basha's were both just as busy as they had ever been, there were actually MORE mom and pop businesses, 3 new ones i noticed, and ground was being broken near walmart for what appeared to be 3 new businesses, although i have no idea what exactly they are going to be.

All I can say is, bring something here. I'm cool with Walmart, yes, I like Target better, but i do most of my shopping at Walmart. I'm sure I'm not alone, how many times do you drive into Chandler or Casa Grande, do shopping, get 1/2 way on the 347 or Casa Grande Highway and think, Dang, I forgot....

It would be nice that if i or anyone forgot something, we didn't have to drive an hour round trip just to get to walmart or target.

Well Said. I think that the people who are for growth are people who moved here from lager cities and realize that with growth everyone makes money. the people Against growth are the ones who have been here since the begining of time and have never seen an ocean... even if it is just dirty old Jones beach, or howard beach for that matter.peace.

It looks like they are starting on the area where the QT will be. Not sure how long it takes to build all that.

Big things are starting to happen..

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

What are Lager cities? Are those specific cities where certain beers are made? Would for instance Dublin be a Lager city? And Denver would not be as Coors is a beer and not really a lager? Pete's is a lager too, not sure where they make Pete's though, just like their winter brew. Just wondering!<img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/blink.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Blink' align='absmiddle'>
