After reading this snippet of an article in the WSJ I am wondering if this includes the store slated to open in Maricopa?

I caught that, too. It wouldn't surprise me that HD holds off on Maricopa, it seems like a trend.

Only time will tell.

I'm not sure about doomsday. But, HD has clearly cut back on expenses in the recent months. They have experienced a downturn(understandly) in business. Their announcement to curtail expansion AND close stores already open, is an extension of that strategy.

I'm in favor of seeing HD here. But, if their current strategy means holding off on stores including Maricopa, they'll make that decision.

Again, time will tell. They may decide to go ahead with plans anyway. But, given their viewpoint, that may be a (perceived) risk they aren't willing to take right now.

hmmm... hard to say...

IF i were to run a retail building supply company like lowes or depot i would look for towns that offer the most foreclosures for sale. Foreclosure homes are usually in need of repair since the previous occupants couldn't afford that house or maintenance. Some even feel they were somehow wronged by the lender. They often times sabotage, damage, remove anything worth selling and "relieve" themselves in a corner. Eventually those homes will be purchased and repaired. having an operational building supply store nearby will surely be a benefit to the new owners and the new owners would certainly be a benefit to the store.

Hopefully those retail stores see things the way i do, and one of them will open up. I prefer lowes.

This should be on the homepage. This is one of the most accurate things I have read on this site.

Maybe I'll get some t-shirts made. Would anyone be interested in buying one?

In theory, it sounds good. But the key word is eventually. I don't believe it's a matter of forclosures for sale, but a matter of forclosures being sold. Right now, they are aren't.  Sure, things will turn around, but that may not be enough to entice a a building supply company to be here. If they are already in slowing times, they may not be willing to wait for eventually.

I would discourage a business to open anywhere based on that. But, they don't ask me so I hope they open anyway.

Things will happen how they happen, no matter if one "speculates" or not.  There is nothing wrong with passing information, ideas, or thoughts. One can only control what one can only control.

Thanks for your info.

Definitely.  But no one wear them out of town.  I'd like to get someone to buy my house, so I can get out of here!

I'll wear it out.

Wish I could help you with buying your house.

But, I can't wait until the market improves.
First thing I'll do is put a FOR SALE sign up...

Same here.  I don't even dare try to sell right now.  I'm not about to eat $100K.  But as soon as I can get what I paid..I'm gone!

I know for us the reasons are many.  We were lied to and misled on many occasions about SO many things.  No amount of research could've helped us determine that at the time.  Had we known then what we know now we would've happily continued living in an apartment.  Our debt would be completely paid off and we'd have money in the bank.  Instead we're in debt up to our ears paying on a house that isn't near worth what our mortgage is for and there are no jobs here.  The list is really long...but the main thing is being lied to by so many people has left us angry, bitter and frustrated.

Anyone consider that one of the reason's its so hard to sell a house here is because that for any of the essentials of home repair, you have to drive to Chandler or Casa Grande?  I know the market's in a crunch, but in a bad market where prices are falling, people aren't going to flock to a place that has no amenities.

Any business venture is a gamble, no matter where you put it.  I remember when I worked retail, our chain put a store at Scottsdale Fashion Square, where all of their demographic studies showed it would flourish.   What they didn't count on was the holier-than-thou Scottsdale shoppers that thought they were too good for the store because of their desire to be the next Rodeo Dr.   The store tanked....

I don't think we have seen the worst of the market, but I hope that Home Depot and Wal-Mart decide to stick it out.  I am counting on those two locations to save me some time and gas.    Although, I agree I would prefer Lowe's, I will welcome Home Depot with open arms....just my 2 cents....

Forgive me for soundling like I'm kicking while you"re down, but I'm an advocate on basing decisions on one's own financial situation not on what the "future holds".

I believe in making financial situations based on being in the position financial strength from the get go. If things go south, there is a cushion. If things do come to fruition, it's all gravy.  I don't believe in letting "outside forces" dictate what I do or don't do. There weren't guns at people's heads at the closings.

I understand the anger, bitterness, and frustration. But, those feelings don't do anything to turn back the clock nor do they  change things for the future. All we have is now and we can do the best we can to improve financial lives one step at a time.

I would appreciate you not personally bestowing your sage widsom on me.  You have no idea who I am personally, what my beliefs are, what I was told, what was in writing, what my financial situation is or otherwise.  What you read in a short snippet of a post doesn't give you enough information about me to act as if you know me well enough to give advice.  I agree with some of the others on here.  I am and do continue to move on...and out of Maricopa when possible.

Why would you ask forgiveness for kicking someone while their down and then proceed to kick them while their down?  Hmmm.
