Alert | I have no proof, other than hearing it from a friend, who heard it froma neighbor. But word has it that Mountainside Fitness is not going to build theur gym anymore. According to someome who was going to work there, they are still going to own the land, but wont actually open a facility until things "recover" out here. Has anyone heard anything to confirm, or contradict this?

Alert | | Have they ever heard of "If [we] build it, they will come"? I don't understand this. The situation is "depressed" everywhere and yet Maricopa is getting the raw end of the deal...as though this was somehow our fault that things turned the way they did. QC is still building like crazy, isn't their situation the same as ours? I have learned that there are several neighbors that are simply walking away from their homes because Maricopa is too far away or because they thought they could flip their house quickly. This is really very sad to me. Not so much the Mountainside Fitness thing but everything in general. This is our first house and while I didn't expect to make a ton of money [like people have done in the past] I didn't expect for things to happen as they are. Anyway, sorry for this...

(I know you guys read the forum... so don't play me like that!) | | Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem. ______________________________________ *************************************** San Diego Super Chargers! GO!!! Maricopa is in the top 3 cities in the state for building permits. Buckeye is first. We are pulling in around 140 a month and that qualifies as #3. What is happening isn't necessarly bad. When we bought our 1st house it slowly appreciated to where we could sell it for a decent upgrade house. What happened the last 4 years is the exception. Values shot up so fast that any equity was meaningless because you could only afford to buy a house that was basically the same as what you sold. While tough what is happening now is good, the market is correcting. I have no sympathy for the flippers, they turned home buying into a day at the tracks and got the expected results.

Alert | Amen to that. People wanted to make a quick buck without doing anything. And many did. But the market could only take that for so long. Thanks god its being corrected because prices were out of control.

Alert | | The above comments are so true. What happened here between 2004 and 2006 was absolutely crazy. I've seen real estate cycles before both here and in Chicago. Maricopa is well suited for growth for the future and it will definitely grow bigger. There is nothing wrong with what is happening now. All the folks who scream about empty houses and think there are fewer people here now are probably not seeing the whole picture. This is simply the other end of the cycle and it will turn around. When it does, the growth in fringe areas will come roaring back - sure, people who've stayed here a while might be ready to move back to more developed areas, but this area will always attract the next crop of buyers who want to buy more home for less money and may have jobs in Tempe or Chandler or Gilbert. I bought here for the long term and I think a few years from now people will realize that Maricopa will develop into a great town. Things take time - nothing happens overnight!

Alert | | Thanks so much to you guys for your encouragment. I was just feeling discouraged and frustrated, particuarly because I would love to see some real growth and shopping come to Maricopa. I get so tired of having to drive into Chandler because my daughter is having twin day at school and the girls can't find anything to match!!! ...but, I appreciate your optimism and will try to grab some of that for the future.

Alert | | Wow, I must say that I am disappointed to the extreme. My wife and I purchased a treadmill and ellipitcal machine last summer, but we were very excited that Mountainside had selected Maricopa as one of its newest locations. Sigh...

Alert | Childcare was definitely the biggest advantage that Mountainside had. Mife wife and I work polar opposite schedules so someone is always home w/ kids. But unfortunately, that leaves liitle to no free time. I should open a drop in only, temporary sitting center in the Fry's lot. I'd be a millionaire!!
