. . .of Maricopa all about businesses? Most of the postings in this category have to do with business entities. Does anyone have any input into what may be important to the future of this city that does not directly involve businesses?

Without businesses you don't have a large source of money coming into the city so the city can build things like a new City Hall, library, more parks and schools.

I think it is because when many of us moved here, there were alot less choices for dining out, groceries, video stores etc. The only grocery store was Basha's and the only fast food was Dairy Queen. The big thing was to discuss how the area was growing and coming in to it's own. Most of those discussions revolved around what new option we would have to eat, shop etc. and the topic evolved from there.

Is there something else that you would like to bring up about Maricopa's future? Just start a topic and see what kind of response you get.

I see from many posts already that this category is dominated by a business mindset. I was just curious as to why so many feel that the future of a city is so connected to the business mindset.

I would like to see more information on how people are concerned with teen activities, senior and disabled resources, additional library services, etc. I would also like to hear from others regarding community issues that they would like to see discussed besides what fast food restaurant or big box store is coming next.

Do you think this is a generally American frame of mind in today' society--a centralized business or economic theme behind every topic??

I think that the business issue is mostly symbolic. When I lived in East Mesa, I had to drive a half hour to go to any mall. That's how it is out here. Time is not that big of an issue.

We want to see more businesses because that means that our community is growing and has promise. When businesses go under, or when large companies hesitate to open shop here, it shows a lack of confidence in our city. And we feel that. Consider the difference in the tone of this board over the last two years.

I bet you would like a dog park, wouldn't you?

$$$$$$$$$

that only comes with more big companies that will hire local talent to work for them.

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

I like the small town. I never moved here wanting more big business. Having what we have is fine with me. A Target would be nice, not necessary. We have everything else I am looking for. I never came here to change it.

However, it would be nice to work closer to home. I learned that this is something that probably will never happen until this city gets so big I will no longer wish to live in it.

Boymaker, actually my opinion is exactly the opposite. I decided to refrain from posting opinions myself during my research, however this helps me to illustrate and expand on a certain point. I see from this statement that people can be either misunderstood, or assumptions are made that are not necessarily true.

I have observed this with a few other posts, and it seems that what Jason had mentioned in his post in another area is true. Without human interaction, there is a lack of body language, or non-verbal communication, which alters the receiver's understanding of the poster's message.

Another phenomenon I noticed on a topic-specific forum, is that the appropriate use of emoticons actually helps to deliver a more accurate message and create a better sense of understanding and communication. Users also felt it makes for a more interesting experience, as reading plain text became more cumbersome leading to less participation.

This is from your post on the General board:

1. My profile name is a sort of twist on "Who let the dogs out?" and speaks to the social responsibilities in a densely populated community regarding the care of animals. It seems many people today do not consider the effects of having pets in close quarters, and choose a life for their dog that is less than ideal.

It is logical that you, who claim to be so concerned with dogs in close quarters, would welcome a dog park. Is it not?

Boymaker-
While it may seem logical that someone may support a dog park if they show a concern for owner to treat their animals responsibly. However, in a vacuum, this may be a logical assumption. There are however, more factors to consider when deciding where to invest municipal funding. I do think that teens, seniors and disabled are a higher priority than animals right now. Advancement of safety and medical infrastructure is a priority as well.
Proactive and aggressive neighborhood watch programs could be implemented on a city-wide scale with relatively few dollars. I am referring to a campaign-type program that has visibility, PR and continuous training through city programs.
So, a first look, it may seem logical that I would support a dog park, but given other information , you can see that I place other things at a higher priority.
This illustrates my statement that it is easy in a forum atmosphere to make assumptions, or not have a clear picture. Logic is only as effective as the amount of information you have to work with.

So then, out of all the possible monikers you could have chosen when registering here, you chose to identify yourself with a cause that originated in your judgement of others. Yet, you do not consider it priority enough to try to resolve with even minimal support of an alternative that works?
I'll be sure not to assume anything about you in the future, lest my lack of analytical thinking skills come through like a black bra under a white blouse.

Boymaker,

As I said, I did not say your conclusion wasn't a logicalone;just that you did not have all the facts. As for the choice of userid, I gave a reason and it is not to pass judgement on others. I said it was a takeoff on "Who Let The Dogs Out", as well as the fact that many seems to have trouble with neighbors dogs.

You also ignored the fact that I said that right now, here in Maricopa, there are other more pressing matters than a dog park. I did not say I would never support one; just not now. Read the threads about the teens vandalizing and tagging. I know several families who need support regarding disability issues and seniors who need assistance. A major Crime Watch campaign would go a long way.

There are some teens who choose to think about the community and what would be best to help it instead of vandalizing and tagging, but I guess harsh words are easier for you to give than a real understanding of the points I was trying to make.

You are insistent that your logic prevails, even if it is through ignorance of the reasons and facts I gave you. I read that you home school your children. Is your judgment of them this harsh when you do not agree with or ignore their reasoning?

So about the future of Maricopa, I have a question about the Ethanol plant here. From what I understand it's one of the biggest around so do you anticipate it bringing a lot to our economy in Maricopa someday? If so, when appx? What needs to happen for it to be largely relevant? I was just thinking that since the government is always referring to how we need to utilize ethanol more, that it's got to benefit us someday.
