Alert | | I haven't been on the forum for weeks but I have a quick question. Another resident of Maricopa told me they have broken ground for Walmart on Porter Road, is this true? Thanks in advance for the info.

Alert | | I believe so. I am not sure they have actually put shovel to gorund for the building yet, but they are finishing up all the road and parking emporvements. Home Depot will be there as well.

We agree. The initial opening date was supposed to be the beginning of 2008, I'd guess it's going to be the beginning of 2009 now.

Alert | If they are smart they will open by November 2008 so they can take advantage of next years holiday season. Most stores shoot for that. Guess we'll see. | | Senior Member Joined July, 2005

Alert | | I took a nice bike ride yesterday and rode past the "future walmart" spot. Looks like it will be done by 2011. They don't even have all the water/sewer pipes done yet. So, plan on doing your Christmas shopping else where next year too. | | "Everything for everyone and nothing for ourselves"

Alert | | I guess I ought to go into a Wal-Mart sometime just to see what all the fuss is about! I remember when the company expanded into Kansas 35 years ago. I didn't like its business practices then and still don't today.

Alert | | walmart has a very efficient builder. they typically can build fast. didn't the new one on baseline only take about 5-6 months from start to open? | | Follow your bliss. Happiness is a conscious decision

I believe it was 8 months, but it came about at a time when it behooved them to build as fast as possible to take advantage of an "up" market. At this point it benefits WalMart more to wait things out, to time their opening to the upswing.

Alert | | It's just they seem to have all those items you need that they don't always carry in the grocery stores, although Fry's tries really hard. I'm looking forward to it
