The negative feedback on this forum doesn't suprise me, one of the reasons so many good people have left the forum. It seems that is all store owners get on here these days. This forum was once a positive place about a year ago. Sure there may be a good comments here or there but then 10 more to kick them down. Maricopa and small business owners will continue to fail with inflated real estate costs and constant bashing from the locals. It is so easy to type out negative comments not knowing what these people are going through to try and live their dreams. Inflated costs? Do you have any clue of the cost these people are paying just for rent? Many of the local business owners are paying out of their pockets. I know of at least 5 MORE businesses that are closing up shop in the next year. Maricopa will continue to fail until this community can change it's outlook. Whatever happened to community, and coming together to support local business???

I happen to love dvd and game depot. Sure they are no Blockbuster, but that is what I love about them. The owners are friendly and have never turned down a customer who asks them to get a product in that they don't have. They are very involved in the community as well. Their prices are extremely reasonable. In fact a heack of a lot less then Blockbuster. I pay $15 a month to rent as many games as I want, and they always have new games as soon as they come out. They also had the Halo 3 Master Chief Limited Edition Spartan Helmet XBOX, which I thought was pretty cool for a small shop out in the middle of the desert.

I just can't sit idly by anymore and watch good small business owners be bashed. It is sad about Cexi, but they won't be the last. Things seriously need to change here or this town will continue to fail.

That was touching, but it doesn't change the fact that Cexi doesn't offer something that the community needs. I support local businesses that offer something I need. I will not go buy a shirt at Cexi just because it is the right thing to do. Nor will I buy or rent a game from the game store because they don't have the selection. It comes down to supply and demand. The failing businesses skipped over that little tidbit when they opened.

Ummm....there is only one post "bashing" DVD and Game Depot. That is hardly majority opinion. The other post only said it was destined to fail and I concurred. No reasons for these opinions were stated, but if you would like to know, I believe it will close due to failure to recognize the golden rule...location, location, location. Not only are they off the beaten path with limited signage to attract interest, but on a road where traffic truly sucks. If I have to choose between zipping in and out of Blockbuster fast or sitting for 15 minutes waiting to turn left on 347 off of Honeycutt, you'll find me at Blockbuster paying the few extra bucks. The differences in selection should go without saying merely on the size of one space compared to the other.

I love DVD and Game Depot. I have the $9.95 per month plan, renting one video at a time. They have always been very nice to me in there. In fact, I like them because they are small, and not some large place like Blockbusters. Al and Paul go out of there way to get you anything you would like to have.

My family enjoys DVD and game depot. We have bought video games there for the kids and gifts for their friends. It may be "off the beaten path", but the access isn't that difficult. The villages and Senita are right there. Any community east on Honey cutt(Glenwilde, etc) have ez access. Anyone from cobblestone or RED can go through the Villages via North entrance or Edison. It's closer to residences of communities off South JWP.
I read the city has plans set for putting in a stop light @ Honeycutt and John Wayne Pkwy, too.

We use other businesses in that location, too.

You may remember this from the original 85239:

I think people have a fundamental misunderstanding of microeconomics if they think that the negative attitude (which is highly debatable) on 85239 is killing businesses. "Complaints" that are being listed are valid concerns and reasons why people cannot shop here. When someone says the prices are inflated, they are comparing to other businesses and places such as those in Phoenix or Casa Grande and are referencing their limited budget. As much as people don't want to recognize it, the economy is slowing down and people are being forced to watch where their dollars go. Limited selection is a valid concern as well. You can't expect people to shop at a business even when it doesn't have a wide enough selection.

I'll admit that the name "Cexi" just grossed me out. I was very sad when OTG Bistro went under and felt this weird foreboding that many would follow. I think it's bizarre that a landlord would prefer a vacancy to a reduced rent. I assume there must be some tax break that benefits them somehow.

Maricopa is in for very hard times. Parks and Recreation can't save an entire town, folks. It's really disheartening that there isn't an aggressive plan to market our community in place from these elected officials. What are they doing?

Sorry, I'm frustrated. I can't stand the way that this city has been planned. If a developer doesn't do it, the city seems to not care. My heart beats out of my chest every time I'm in the Fry's parking lot because that freaky hub by Extreme Fitness, and the way that the gas station traffic merges with the parking lot traffic in whatever direction. There's just no wisdom in how they make decisions. The only explanation is that they must have gone through the MUSD schools.

I feel for the small business owners who are having money troubles. But, unless the Barclay Group representative put a gun to their head during lease negotiations, they really have no one to blame but themselves.

Another DVD and Game Depot lover here. I started going there when I rented in Senita, it was of course easy access, I am in Maricopa meadows now and I still go there. Its not that hard to get in and out of there if you use some creativity. like last night I swear there was 25 cars lined up to turn off of honeycutt to JWP, I went through the sideroad to the casa grande freeway part and there was NO ONE. Whenever I want something in, they are more than happy to accomodate. in Jan when a game expansion came out I wanted and people were sitting overnight in lines for it all over the valley, it was sold out even on the companies website and I got it that day there. They also try to support the community as much as possible, Not to mention all the free popcorn they give the kids I dont think they are destined to fail, but definately destined to need a bigger place They are even doing a haunted house on halloween for the kids there. They truely love this community and care about it and I think they will succeed just fine.

I also consistantly use businesses in that area. Maricopa Black belt academy, Mi Casitas, Studio Charme, Hair focus (yes been to both) The doctor there, and the bookstore. its all about supporting local businesses, Yes they might not be on the main street, but god forbid someone has to drive off it

As far as Cexi goes, I went there once, received a additude because the girl was outside smoking (and tried to lie and claim she smoked where no one could see on these forums). That was my first and last time going there, I went in just the other day, the people were very nice, but I mean come on. Maybe if they were a Mill Ave store for the college kids they might have succeeded better. There were some business attire that reminded me of my grandmothers closet, some plus size clothes that were poorly made, and well the skimpy stuff to me was just trashy. I considered buying a shirt for my daughter but I dont want her wearing anything that says Cexi and I take a guess alot of people agree. They were just destined to fail, they might of come here with the best intentions but obviously didnt take into consideration the area they were marketing to.

The only reason I didn't shop there was because if the name. i assumed it was like a Fredericks or Victoria's Secret, not a normal clothing store. Now the DVD on Honeycutt, we go there all the time, its close and cheap. $2.00 + for a rental, cant beat that! I hope it stays but I hate the way it is set up. There is a reason for the new release wall.

I'm from the mid-west and can't wait until we get a Maurices, Debs and Vanity Stores down here. One can only hope.

Fashions by Cexi....I mean come on people. I could have told you that would have failed a long time ago. One problem with businesses here is that if it doesn't address a need, people won't go. A clothing store won't make it here. Native New Yorker? They will be fine. This is a sign of a bad business model.

How does that western store by Basha's stay open?

UHM just a guess but take a wiff of the night air...COWboys live out here...John Wayne ring any bells?? Correct me if I am wrong but before Maricopa was the Copa we all love now was it not considered the COUNTRY?

Like I said its just a guess drummerboy
