Sorry to be negative but I bought a house here about 4 months ago and I am deeply regretting it because of the lack of growth in the area. I know it is happening everywhere in AZ due to the housing market, but at least they have stuff already in place.. I have a disability and can't get any services here, talk of a hospital coming in is probably not happening for many years to come, I can't drive long distances and I am therefore isolated other than getting out to go to look at Fry;s home department for the 100th time ;(

My husband and I moved here because of the cost of living but honestly, I think we should have continued renting in Chandler.. at least there were stores there and some stuff to do. And, it didn't smell like cow poo so I could sit out on my patio without having to worry about getting nauseaus.

I was just wondering if anyone else that bought in here recently is also very frustrated. My husband keeps saying to hang in there and growth will come eventually but he is much more optimistic about the growth of this town than I am right now, or shall I say, about the timeframe of this growth. It really sucks being disabled here, with no stores around and nothing to do all day. When we bought our house, all we kept hearing was about all the growth in the area. I knew it would take a while for things to grow, but if I had known it was going to slow this much and we would have to probably wait it out for at least a few years for this city to have the services and infrastructure it needs, I would have stayed where I was. I really think it's beautiful here and kind of serene but I also wish I could move back to civilization but in this housing market, we are negative equity so no chance of getting out of here anytime soon.

Wow, 4 months ago! Who told you growth would be happening soon? I used to have the same thoughts as you and have gotten over it. You will too! Give it some time. I too wish there were more retail here in the Copa, but there is not and we just have to get over it for now. In time we may have a bit more going on here. Have you gone to Harris tried their buffet or just hung out? The cow poo smell is not as bad down on the South end of town. Try it you'll like it as Mikey says! Oh, welcome to the Copa!

Live every day as if it were your last and smile!

What is it with people like you folks? You folks moved here four months ago and already you have this town figured out! Did you not thoughouly check this town and the surrounding areas out? Did you save a ton of money on a home? We moved out here three years ago, and have been watching this town grow for the last five years. Name another town here in Arizona, besides maybe congested Queen Creek, that has had a substantial growth. Like I said above, we moved here three years ago and there was, in the Communicator, a news article celebrating the census report of just over five thousand people here in Maricopa. Now how many is there?
There is so much to do down here socially. This web site and all the stores here have a variety of commitees, groups forming, clubs, and comunity service leaping out at us. Get involved with something and learn to be positive about this place. We are happy that the growth has slowed down, maybe this is a good thing, the town can get to grips on the red neck antics it sometimes supplies. Hang in there for the changes are taking place right now!

Delby...I agree with you. My question to all of those who are unhappy did you look to see what was out here or just listen to what the realtor told you?

Things are improving. Though to be honest it will probably be 2009, 2010 before we see some of the stores and restaurants everyone wants. I bet it will be more than 4 years on a hospital.

Yes. But not because of the lack of ammenties or peolpe of this city, they seem to be very vocal which fits my personnaly perfect. The problem I have is the way this city is ran. The goverment. I am a middle age family man and have lived in many cities in my life time. However, there was no way in seeing how this city was ran from a distance. If I would have know then, what I know now, then I would have look at other cities in the area. But fear not, I will speak my peace on election day.

Yeah, 4 months ago there was plans put into place to build things but did you think that they would pop up over night? They have to be built and that does take a day or so. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/crazy.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Crazy' align='absmiddle'>

singinsunqueen sounds like you need a hobby. Shopping is not the only way to kill time. There are lots and lots of things you can do in your home to make the time fly by...

I used to live in Maricopa before it was Maricopa. There was NOTHING to do not even the fry’s home department. I took up scrapbook and baking to keep me busy. I am not say scrapbooking or baking would suit you but my point here is that life is what you make of it.

So you can sit it your new home and sulk because you’re stuck in a cow poo smellin' town or you can get up and find something productive to do with your time.

I think Walmart is supposed to be coming next year. Then you can alternate your time between Fry's and Walmart.

i have plenty of hobbies... i failed to mention i am bedridden with a serious chronic illness..(also involving chemical sensitivities and I was told the cow farms were going out alot sooner than they were. I also actually didn't mean shopping as in just to shop.. i am not a shopper.. i just meant to be able to get to stuff I need I can;'t get otherwise like at petsmart, walmart, home depot, and other things I need... I can't drive long distances and kinda thought these things would be coming in sooner... not immediately but sooner. also... we moved here about 5 mos ago but started looking a year ago and i think alot of what is stoppin the growth is this corrupt council and THAT i didn't anticipate because i've never experienced that before.

anyway, gonna stop posting here because things get misconstued via email and feelings get hurt.

I moved here 3 years ago, from suberbia, and am loving it! I am glad that I persued meeting my neighbors. They are truly a fantastic bunch of people, and ahve come to love everyone of them! I am on the neighborhood social committee, and we are organizing some great upcomming events! I think you just need to find a way to 'get involved', and jump in.

I am sorry to have offended anyone who;s been living here a long time. It's my own personal issues and coming from NYC, I am not used to a rural community where I can't get even my nursing company to come out here and help me because it's too far.

We moved because we needed a less expensive place to live with medical bills mounting dailiy and I was thinking about that overall and I must say... most of the stuff we were told about Maricopa's anticipated and quick growth was told to me not by my realtor, but by residents of the area but all this growth seems to stop as soon as I moved here so I can't help but be regretful.

Sorry if I offended anyone. I didn't mean to. I guess rural living just isn't for me and it's no disrepect to anyone here. If you are disabled and need stuff right around you, including things you can get to quickly and medical services, it's a huge problem and I should have anticipated this and not been so gullible to listen to what everyone was saying how "oh, yeah every month there is another store coming in and walmart should be here within the year, etc etc".

Again, sorry to offend. Best to everyone that lives here.

On a side note... as far as growth.... I agree with something someone said in another post... the new home builders are building way too much out here and the emphasis needs to be put on bringing services and business to those who are already living here, otherwise we are going to have huge problems with an overgrowth of people and no services and traffic on the 347 will only get worse.

Growth hasn't stopped. Most businesses are are still coming. Most estimates that have been thrown around have been unrealistic. As Marty McD says, "patience is mandatory".

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha.......

Sorry to sound cynical but I moved here from Power Ranch in Gilbert. When I moved there 3 years ago there wasn't a damn thing. My frustration level was so high. When I left there were so many things popping up in Gilbert I kind of had mixed emotions. But here, there is 10 times more than when I moved there. When I first moved to Gilbert, I had a 3o-40 minute drive along a 2 lane road just to get to the 202 which was only 3 miles away. But with patience, along came a freeway and more infrastructure. Here you have a four lane highway and quite a lot of stores in place here right now. Maybe it is why I laugh every time I hear people complain about the 347. Trust me, the development will come. with patience, your housing deal will look like the greatest thing you ever did. Now go buy a 24 pack of Miller Lite and watch the Cardinals on Sunday. Life is good, ebjot the stars, and go gamble at the casino.

If you are so unhappy about the decision that you and your husband made, maybe you should be bitching at him. If you have such serious health issues, you were a fool to move 35 miles from the nearest hospital. Period. Who cares about Petsmart. Besides, there is a Petsmart 30 minutes from here. In reality, with all the traffic and lights in town, it would take you about the same length of time to get there. I enjoyed my life out here much better when I had to drive 35 miles to the nearest grocery store.

At any rate, why don't you keep your nasty comments to yourselves. Geez, I thought people in AZ were actually nicer than my hometown.. certainly not on this website.

All I can say again is... can anyone say JERKS!!!!
