Noted. But, as per police reports via Feb, yes, the outlet mall has increased local petty crime, and not so petty. Your right...I wasn't there back in the day, but "times is a changing". (Just not all for the good) As per your Scottsdale comment, it was a higher end area to start with (~5-10 yrs) next ot most Phoenix burbs. I look forward to seeing the changes first hand, but mark my word, since Maricopa will be home, you can bet I'll voice what I don't think is good for the town.

hmmmm. if an outlet mall opens theft increases. your right, stores do increase crime, so lets close them all down and only shop outside of maricopa, thus lowering our crime rate.
you can't have theft if there is no where to steal from! utopia!

If you're talking about the north side of MCG Highway at Porter, that's the future home of WalMart.

Alert | | Not wanting Wal-Mart doesn't mean that you don't want progress or don't want a bigger city. I'd much rather see a Target or some other large-scale retailer that treats their employees fairly and supports the community in a more positive way. I'd also love a Trader Joe's and some other restaurants that aren't fast food, pizza, or bar and grill- and some more 'shopping' stores! | | As Bertrand Russell once said, "The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation." Alert | | The article said nothing about our Walmart not being completed. They were referring to the Walmart in the Cave Creek area.

Alert | | anyone else get the flyer from Fresh&Easy Market in their mailbox today? looks they will be coming in at JW parkway and hathaway right by the post office, where they used to have a bunch of modular homes. its a minute or 2 from my place, if its reasonably priced i think its gonna be great. when QT comes in, i may not even have to cross 347 much anymore to go grocery shopping..... | | listened for, they cannot be heard;looked for, they cannot be seen; felt for, they cannot be touched: old ninja proverb

Alert | I heard that Peter Piper and Ruby Tuesdays is going into the big empty lot next to Fry's...not sure how reliable my sources are
As for Walmart...I haven't heard/seen anything about them dropping out of Maricopa specifically, but I did hear/read that Walmart in general cut down store openings by over 50%. They were supposed to open like 400 stores nationwide and now they're only opening 150. I guess they're trying to improve their reputation by only opening stores in areas that are middle income and higher. I'd rather have a Target instead of Walmart...I have seen firsthand what a Super Walmart can do to a community and I'd personally, rather not have one a mile from my house Oh well, if it comes I'm sure I'll shop there. I spend twice as much money at Fry's as I used to spend at Albertson's in Ahwatukee.
I'm really excited about this fresh and easy market everyone is talking about!

You should do a little more research if you think Target treats its employees significantly better than Wal-Mart. Personally I like Target better, but Wal-Mart has gotten a bad rap often because of a misunderstanding of economic issues. | | Liberalism and capitalism address themselves to the cool, well-balanced mind. Anybody know when Mountain Side Fitnees will break ground?

According to the manager from Mountain Side Fitness in Ocotillo they are supposed to break ground in 8/08 or 09/08 and be done by the end of the year. It takes them 3-4 months to build. Per the manager they are going to make their facility look like the one that is in Surprise. | | Queen Shiba Senior Member Joined June 2005

Their website is vague, it says Winter 2008. Does that mean this January or next December?
