 Alert | Well, I loved Maricopa BEFORE all the houses were here. I know, shut up and move on, so given that....we need business. YOu can't have all these homes and all these people out here and have the only places to work 20 miles away! Gee, let me think, does everyone even have a car, NO...surprising, not. Trust me, I work with Salvation Army and the number of people out here with no car and no job scares the crud out of me. How are these people surviving?
So bring on WalMart and whatever other mart wants to join them....just build with high standards, stop overcrowding, let the community catch up to the homes that are built, provide proper roads, local services, emergancy needs, adequate funding for police and fire, get the schools (which since I am in the perfect world now the community supports) and build some place to have a meal where you can SIT DOWN with your family. Also, how about some entertainment for our teens...something besides sports for those that aren't into that. With all the people out here I would love to see the community pool remodeled. I know that it has needed it for YEARS but the funding was out of reach...with all the new people here, you would think that could now get done. The library is busting at the seems...it needs a new, modernized home...yes, I know they are trying...and I could go on and on. | |

Alert | New guy on the block...so new, I'm not there yet; moving to Maricopa Aug. 1st.
For the town / city of Maricopa, and all whom call it home, A WalMart / Super WalMart is not the best thing to have. If Chandler has one, that's close enough. As far as property values going "up, and up, and up"...nope. Buyers look at traffic, crime, and a lot of other negatives that will come with WalMart.
If you can put the brakes on it, do it.
Now, what else is on the books for Maricopa?

All you need to do is plan...been there; 48 miles to the closest store. Managed to hang in for 2 years.
-Kick back, enjoy...if you need it that bad, order it on line, FedEx it overnight.
Trust me, I've seen what a WalMart, KMart, Cosco can do.
Casa Grande has an outlet mall....look at what that has done to the area crime rate.

And with all due respect, you have no idea what you're talking about regarding Casa Grande's outlet mall and its alleged association with crime. The crime rate in that town has remained steady for years, and there is nearly no activity whatsoever at the outlet mall where crime and police response is concerned.
Furthermore, the viability of the outlet mall, WalMart, and other seemingly "low end" stores was part of what convinced Westcor to create The Promenade at Casa Grande, a 1.1 million square foot shopping center anchored by a full-size Target and Dillard's department store.
I do not subscribe to the belief that WalMart, Costco, and their ilk are town killers. Scottsdale didn't go to hell in a handbasket when the Salt River Reservation opened a WalMart up on their border, or when Scottsdale opened one of its own in the high-market Airpark region of town. But, as per police reports via Feb, yes, the outlet mall has increased local petty crime, and not so petty.
Your right...I wasn't there back in the day, but "times is a changing".
(Just not all for the good) As per your Scottsdale comment, it was a higher end area to start with (~5-10 yrs) next ot most Phoenix burbs.
I look forward to seeing the changes first hand, but mark my word, since Maricopa will be home, you can bet I'll voice what I don't think is good for the town. | | | |

Alert | bldaddo heres an idea: NEXT time you "go into town"(when you get here) Call me so I can give you my shopping list and you can pick those things up for me! Cus I will HATE having to drive into town now that the 347 is going to be "worked on" (at the most inconvienent times). Does that work for you? Cus it will certainly work for me!

Alert | How amusing. An outlet mall causing an increase in petty crime. Would this be vehicle break-ins? Or might the increase be caused by the increase in population....nah, too easy. And as far as buyers looking at property values...who cares, I'm staying. I want a big box here too.
But, if you can provide evidence of the outlet stores in CG causing an increase in crime, I will read it. | | | |

Alert | | i only moved here because there were homes we could afford as first time buyers with 0 down....i personally want to see maricopa grow into a smaller version of mesa, tempe, or chandler etc etc etc....and KONICHIWA....our town is so land locked by reservation land i dont think you will ever have to worry about it getting too big for your liking....i would just like to see a bit more options for shopping and other services | |

Alert | | I saw people asking about Mountain Side Gym...It should be complete by Fall of 2008. Or so they say! I guess there is one at Ocotillo (I hope I spelled that right..I'm new here) and you can start there if you like and transfer down when it is completed...There is more information on their site I believe. I can't wait until there is stuff to do here and walmart! I like this small town feel we have currently going on..but I hate driving 1/2 hour 45 minutes just to get to a Walmart or anywhere for that matter! I'll be excited to see some new stores and places to go and things! | | | |

All of the things you've cited will come in time. It wasn't so long ago that your house in the Villages was a grove of trees. When Smith-Enke was dirt east of John Wayne Parkway. When the Stage Stop was an actual stage stop. (Okay, that last one actually WAS pretty long ago, but you get the drift) ;-)
