GilaGuy,

I had a hard time finding a map superimposing GRIC's land area onto the area where I-10 goes. From what I could gather, GRIC's land goes all the way down to I-8 right? If so, that's how I interpreted the second bullet as meaning from Loop 202 south to I-8. Was I wrong in interpreting their land area?</div>

You were close. : )

Gila River covers an area from roughly the Santan Loop 202 down to where Arizona 587 intersects it (at what was the old Highway 95 intersection on the northern boundary of Casa Grande). That is the southernmost tip of the GRIC, and that is where the road-widening is slated to begin. The widening will continue down to I-8, a distance of roughly 15 miles.

Darn it! I was hoping that bottleneck near Queen Creek could get fixed, especially the weird lane drop/shift going southbound towards Queen Creek.

That weird lane shift boggles my mind. I'm really not sure why there can't be three full lanes all the way through the underpass there, other than to speculate that the GRIC opposes it somehow. I do know that Gila River has nothing but animosity towards ADOT (some of it probably has some merit if you go back far enough), but my sentiment is that it would be in GRIC's best interests to allow the freeway to be widened, thereby providing better access to future commercial development along that entire I-10 corridor. But I suppose they see it differently, for whatever reason.
