Alert | Most apartment complexes built today look pretty nice and there are probably more "good" renters than "bad" ones. I just don't think there's a market here for that yet. Until there are more jobs here to sustain apartment dwellers, I'd imagine they'd prefer to live closer to Phoenix or Casa Grande. When the time comes though, I'd prefer to not have them in my backyard. Nothing against renters, I just don't want the constant traffic and activity around my home.

Alert | | Not everyone who lives in apts are scum of the earth!! I had to live in an apt. for 3 yrs due to the fact that my (husband at the time) , was on a project that would only last a few yrs and he made good money. We did not want to be locked into a home and get transf. out of state and have a house to worry about selling. I also had a baby and his job was so demanding, who was going to keep up with most of the yard work?? Some people just do not want to keep up the yard!!! There are a lot of people who rent homes and don't take care of them and let weeds grow up and look like crap. I would much rather someone who is renting and doesn't want to care for yard maint. to be living in an apt where they don't have to do such work, than to be living next door to me and having their home look uncared for. Alert | | There seems to be alot of defending where there is no need for it ... no one is saying ALL renters are bad. We also rented when we first moved to AZ in a beautiful, luxurious complex. We'd just moved here and wanted to rent before buying to see if we'd like it enough to stay and buy, so we waited and ... we rented because we'd just moved here and didn't know the area, wanted the time to look around, we had a toddler and for the most part it was nice .... there were alot of young people renting there as well though and these were not $500.00 a month apartments, we paid about $1200 a month for a 3 BR. And we had to deal with noisy parties at the pool sometimes, stuff like that. CLEARLY in some areas apartments are needed ... usually one finds apartments in a city, rarely in the out, out suburbs. What is simply being said is that at this time there is no need. There is already a surplus of empties, some with rents cheaper than we paid for an apartment and that was 11 years ago! So lets all exhale and go back to basics .... can we get the wal mart first and then some more business first then we can always re evaluate. | | "Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen six, result happiness. Alert | | People need to open their eyes and realize everything built in Maricopa is for a profit and not the people who live here. Take a look at who owns the land around here, probably under a corporation name by now to keep their name clear of it. When this city was first incorporated in 2003 a majority of the people who where part of the so called government owned a good percentage of Maricopa. The one's who have stayed still do. So to think they are building apartments for the people, take another look at what happened in the past and what is really going on before you make your decision.

Alert | I am amazed about the ones who are talking about apartments and crime to the city, absolutely ridiculous. A lot of people from Maricopa, young couples and families have lived in apartments before making the move to Maricopa....good prices for just a bit of a drive away from Chandler. My wife and I, along with many of our neighbors and practically everyone I've known and befriended in Maricopa have lived in apartments before....going to school, working and saving up money to have a house of their own. 3 years ago, that dream came true when opportunities came up and chandler/gilbert/tempe were waaaaay too expensive, but the outer boundaries and infinite builders in towns such as QueenCreek, Laveen, Maricopa, Avondale, etc. etc. were good opportunities for people.
Not everyone moved from a house to Maricopa before, a lot started out in apartments.
give me a break. But I do agree though, there really isn't much area or interest for an apartment complex. Casa Grande just built a large nice complex, but look how old they are and their infrastructure. Maricopa doesn't need one for the time being because of the job market out here and the fact that houses are being rented cheap. Another note, even making $8 an hour....people could rent rooms of houses as I have seen multiple people bunk up and split the cost of housing. My brother in Avondale rented 3 rooms of his 7 bedroom house for about $300 each a month.......they also got to share the amenities and everything with the house...cable, internet, hoa gym etc. etc.

Alert | interesting point!~ Another note, I was told that the Dairy farm was not just for dairy = profit. It's the massive amount of land that will fetch them more $$$. That is how they work, they will leave when the land value goes higher and higher....for what it's worth, they will still operate the same as they've always have.

Alert | I've lived in apartments and the biggest factor in my selection of an apartment was based on how close it was to my place of employment. I would definitely never consider Maricopa for an apartment when there are so many nice and affordable ones out in Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, etc.!
Maricopa needs to attract businesses first. Apartments can come later.

Alert | People are funny on this board.Crime ridden apartments arent new. They are older complexs.Apartments would be good for the city they would provide cheeper housing which brings more people, which brings more taxes for the city, and attracts more business to the city.If people can only afford 500-600 for rent, they wont rent a 800 dollar house. So they wont move here.If we dont have a larger population, why would large manufacturing companies want to come here? Or lets just keep things the way they are so only people who make 40k a year and up can live here.
