Many of the comments on the article want to see an old town set up for a downtown in maricopa. I would like to see the revitalization model be more modern focused. While the town of maricopa does have a long history, right now is still early in the development of the city's history. When you look at photos from 1908 of the down town of about any city you did not see buildings that were striving to look old, You see modern for the era architecture. I would hope in 2108 people would be looking at photos of us, in front of modern for the era architecture.

The mayor/council need to understand that our downtown is not Old Town Scottsdale and never will be.  We need to build fresh new buildings that will become historic, not old looking buildings for the sake of looking historic.

Exactly. in a city with a long history I can understand a downtown area that holds on to that history. But forcing historic looking buildings is displeasing. Why would we build 1890's era structures in a city incorporated in 2003? Maricopa should be looking forward for its heritage, not just making a copy of someone else's history.
