So there was a ribbon cutting event like 2.5 months ago and all the hoop-law but I  drive by the empty lot daily and see no progress!  Its beginning to look like everyother retail project here!

the city council meeting explained it all. If your concerned with issues like this within the city I would suggest going to the meetings, or if you have channel 20 watching the replays.

UTAZ caught a problem with the contract listing a specific date. UTAZ wasn't going to sign a contract that they could not uphold, so they needed city council to agree to sign the revised contract. City council had to wait for the meeting to vote on it, and voted to approve the revised contract. It was mentioned that this delay may have pushed the opening as far back as February, and construction should be underway in a few weeks.

These projects take time, have a little patience. The actual construction of the structure is the easy part, everything prior is a PITA.

Ok I saw in the paper a little blurb but didn't have time to read it. So we are getting a real library? Like a big one? I love libraries but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to find a whole lot in the current one on Maricopa/Casa Grand hwy. I hope they have big windows and comfy chairs.

Don't sell our library short. You can request any book from the county system (over the internet, no less) and they will call you when it comes in.

I finally did get my library card and they are getting a book I wanted they didn't have. Libraries are wonderful and will get anything you want for free!!! If you know what you want, you can just call and order and go in once to pick up. Can't get any simpler than that.

This is a small library and is meant to service a town of 15,000 people.

Too bad 'copa is near 35k.   TBH I'd be happier if a bookmans opened up than a library.  Buying a used book for 3 bucks and having no return date is better imo... plus they have everything else...

Go to Secondhand Pages on Honeycutt. The girl that runs the place is really nice, the books are all reasonably priced and in EXCELLENT shape. She has hardbacks and softbacks of EVERY author I've wanted to read, I've never gone in there without finding the book I was looking for.

I'm also a fan of second hand pages bookstore. I've gone in looking for the first of a series or the last of a trilogy and she's always had it. The store is clean, she's very helpful and none of the inevitable late charges. The books are certainly more reasonably priced than new, although not as good as SAVER'S (but since that's not in town...) ... so as long as I can go to secondhand pages bookstore and always have a book on hand to read, I'm good .... BUT I do agree, if we had a groundbreaking, and the city says it's a go ... it should be a go. Lots of people like and would use a library and storytimes for little kids is always a great thing. Empty lots? Not so good.

this is a great idea.  however, out of the 5 books that I've requested, the county system doesn't carry them.  I've given up trying to use our library.  It's easier to purchase them used online, or use my parents address to get a library card for Tempe or Chandler.
