First, I am not, or is any member of my family a police officer. I just keep reading on this site about all the cops that are so horrible. I am sure, like ANY job, you will find those that totally go above and beyond the call of duty and those that fall short.

I do know that if a policeman, EMT, etc., has already been dispatched to a call they cannot just stop if they see another problem. They do have to keep going to the call they have been sent to. If they see a need, they radio for additional help. Think of the lawsuits if they had been dispatched and then stop along the way and something happens to the first person.

Next, I have total respect for these people. I can't think of another job where you face people that scream at you all day, argue about tickets, some are armed, etc., that you return to for the purpose of protecting and serving...except maybe soldiers. They don't get enough credit either. While I am at it, either do firemen or EMT's. What totally thankless jobs UNTIL IT IS YOU THAT NEEDS THEM...then they can usually do no wrong when they respond to your calls and save the day.

I know, a zillion of you will probably write in about your horrible experiences with the police departments and before that with the sheriff. I for one, just say Thank you.

I agree wholeheartedly. Though I'm not necessarily of the belief that Maricopa needs its own PD at this point in time, I will of course stand behind the department one hundred percent.

My one caveat with your post though is that it actually is possible for emergency units to "on view" an incident and divert themselves to it while responding to another incident. It doesn't happen often, but there are times when a unit can remove itself from a response in order to handle something of a higher priority. It's a very tough call for a first-responder to make, but the priority and nature of the emergency will dictate the action taken.

Just wanted to add that. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'>
