This would be a great boost to our own economy. It will help keep more people to shop in Copa, now all we need is a Costco!

Just putting this out there ..... I emailed the "powers that be" to let them know we want all these services, and the movie theatre and such and that the city needs to help expidite the process and make it attractive for these companies to come here ... all those in favor ..... send an email to the city officials as well!

personally i think opening in 2008 would be way too soon of a date, mid to late 09 seams more reasonable.

As far as sending a letter to our elected officials, choose your words very carefully and be respectful. We do not know if there is a hang up in the approval process, or what it may be.

JUST FOR A HYPOTHETICAL EXAMPLE: Maybe a new widget business wants to open, but they want to use nothing more than a square steel building to keep it cheap. The city officials would (hopefully) reject the building plans because it does not meet city architectural standards. To meet architectural standards the widget company wanting to build would have to change their design and incorporate a lot of much more expensive materials. Lets say the widget company gets a rally from the citizens who convey to their elected leaders that the city needs widget co. at any cost. Widget co could get a variance. If a variance is issued we would indeed get widget co in a hurry, but be stuck with ugly widget co building for the rest of the cities existence. once its built there is no going back.

If there is a hang up we don't know what it could be, it could be a company looking for tax forgiveness, change in zoning, architectural variances. Don't get me wrong, it could be on the cities end too, but the old adage "be careful what you wish for" could come into play.

That being said, here is my letter to city council. Use it or modify as you wish.

Hello all,
I have been hearing rumors about a planned Ultrastar movie theater, Walmart and other businesses interested in Maricopa. I'm writing to express my interest in having the above businesses in our city, and to urge our city officials to work diligently with Ultrastar, Walmart or any other commercial entity to bring intelligently planned growth to benefit our city as swiftly as possible.
Thank you for your time,
Vinny Xxxxx

Hello Vinny,
I was reading through the posts.I understood that you are not aware of the salon and the gym names
The gym i know is LA fitness. I had put that on an earlier post in Health and Wellness
They have purchased land, it seems, so i guess chances to back out seems less likely

got a response from Country Kitchen. although they didn't directly answer if they would be in copa i get the feeling they will. here is their e-mail:

 Good Morning Vinny,

Country Kitchen is proud to announce our partnership with Burak Inc. and our multi-unit deal to bring 10 Country Kitchen’s to the greater Phoenix market.  The first Country Kitchen is scheduled to open in Surprise sometime in August, the second location will be opening in Chandler sometime in December.

Thanks for your inquiry,

Chuck Mocco

Senior Director of Franchise Development

Country Kitchen International

also found some goodies on country kitchen's site:

Coming Soon...Surprise, AZ!

September 27, 2007

Burak Inc. is eager to get underway on their first Country Kitchen restaurant in the greater Phoenix market.  Surprise Pointe Lifestyle Center will be the first in a five store Development Agreement.  This Lifestyle Center will be anchored by a 14 screen Ultra-Star Theatre.  The restaurant will seat around 170 guests and should open in mid April of 2008.

As Khokon Haque, President of Burak Incorporated, prepares for the first Country Kitchen Restaurant to open in Surprise Arizona in August thoughts of expanding the Multi-Unit Agreement were already racing through his mind.  In a joint venture with Glimcher Ventures Southwest, Burak Incorporated signed an additional five store commitment bringing the total to 10 Country Kitchens for the greater Phoenix market.  The second location slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2008 will be in Chandler Arizona followed by two additional units in 2009.

i wonder is country kitchens has an agreement to go in alonf side new ultrastar theaters??

When i lived back east lowes and walmart had a pact to open in the same shopping center. in other words when a new lowes was built a walmart would go next to it and vice versa.

I also got a response from the city,

Mr. Xxxxx,
The City of Maricopa is pleased that UltraStar Cinemas is considering bringing their much-desired entertainment concept to the citizens of Maricopa. We have and will continue to work with developers to identify ways in which projects like these can move forward in an expedient manner.
Thank you for your comments and support of this concept as a welcome addition to the Maricopa community.

Just so you know, that's usually how it is in these big deals with movie theaters.  If you take a look around, you'll see an El Paso BBQ near several AMC movie theaters.  It's a deal worked out by the development company where these restaurants get in on the ground floor, because they know there will be foot and car traffic.

correct. looks like the parking lot exit on the east (right hand) side labelled "signal location" is directly across porter rd from the proposed ultrastar.

Best words are they are considering, not committed.  Jennifer needs to correctly identify the proper status ok.

Ah gee. Does Maricopa really need a 2nd Walgreens before a first of something else? Is the Walgreens on JWP really that far for the town to need a 2nd one? How long until CVS commits to a 2nd location across from this Walgreens?

To the 2nd map showing the shopping center between Edison and Hathaway... gee, thanks for connecting Wilson to Edison only to eventually block it off with this shopping center. Unless they're planning on building an additional signal on Hathaway and JWP, this will only bring back the traffic problem that existed prior to the light on Edison being installed. Sigh... least this shopping center appears to be a ways off with Fresh & Easy being somewhat uncommitted at this point.
