Alert | We're FINALLY getting a movie theatre!!!!! Read on! NEW THEATER CHAIN FOR MARICOPA UltraStar Cinemas is planning a 14-screen movie theater at The Shoppes at Porter Crossing at the northeast corner of state Route 238 and Porter Road in Maricopa. Alert | | Those are some beautiful movie theaters, they really care about the experience for the movie-goer. They have parent movie mornings, they show older epics that should be shown on the big screen like Titanic and Gladiator in the slow winter months. I'm excited!

Alert | Does anyone know if this information is still correct? The article information is not up to date. They have the listed population of Maricopa in 2007 has 59,451. I've heard from another source that the movie theather is coming but seeing all the other items that are suppose to come would be really nice to see happen. I really hope that the article is still correct. | | Senior Member Posts: 4625 Joined: Feb 2006

Alert | Yes, the information is still correct. Everything is still on track for Ultrastar to open the theater sometime in mid-2009. My guess is it'll be late summer/early fall. Funny thing is my buddy is listed on that brochure. He's the one that told me about this deal a year ago. If you go look at the other thread, I basically hinted at the information there, but couldn't come right out and say it since I was sworn to secrecy. Now that it's out in the open I don't have to cover my butt anymore.

I hope so too. did a little digging, and the only business that lists an opening date is tang's. I sent e-mails to the ones i could find info for, but the salon and gym have entirely too general of names to be found.
Tang's Asian Bistro is planning to open there in 2010 : http://tangsasianbistro.com/locations | | Follow your bliss. Happiness is a conscious decision

I definitely would like to see a movie theatre. I'm optimistic about that. However, I'm not so optimistic about the housing market. I don't think we've seen anything, yet. I hope I'm wrong.

Alert | As long as the WalMartSuperCenter gets built, the others WILL follow. I'm sorry to see that Ruby Tuesdays has backed out, but I think another restaurant chain will take it's place. It's not just because Maricopa's population is not was what expected by now, but the fact that because of the economy most franchise stores have cut back on opening new stores anywhere. After living in Maricopa for 3 years, I've learned that you have to just be patient. It's going to be a slow process. When we moved to Maricopa (during the height of the home building) they predicted that 100,000 people would be living here by 2010. I now say we will be lucky to have 45,000 - 50,000. I try not to get frustrated and just continue my trips to Chandler for my shopping and entertainment (except for food).

Alert | | This is great news! A bit perplexed by the last post though about the city perhaps dragging it's feet? Let's hope local officials are thrilled about the prospects of new businesses coming to Maricopa - slowly but surely this town will start attracting more once they see that people are STILL moving here despite the economy and local housing market. I will definitely do my part in contacting local city officials and letting them know that I for one (and I'm sure I speak for others) am very interested in seeing UltraStar come to town!

Alert | Here is an email I rec'd from the theatres. I got the contact from the website. She works on the project. The pasting didn't work so well. Her contact is jill@ultrastarmovies.com. Some of the message got cut off. Great to hear! At this time it's scheduled to open sometime in October 08. | | Maricopa is Home!
