Alert | http://www.copanews.com/?c=135&a=1554 The article is from Jan 22 of this year and states that the deadline for companies wanting to submit a bid to provide us with mass transit was Jan 14th, however due to some confusion the bids were not prepared (except by one company) and there was an extension made to Jan 22nd to prepare the bids. The text is "giving competion until Jan 22 to prepare their bids." Does anyone know when these bids are to be submitted? Did they need to be submitted on Jan 22nd? If not, by when? Only 2 months have passed, are they (the city) planning on moving forward with this or are they just going to forfeit the grant money?

Alert | | Finally, a response after almost 200 views, although that still only shows it is an RFP (request for proposal). Thanks for the input gilbertglcn.

Alert | Well, I was able to find this article, so there is some progress: http://copanews.com/?c=136&a=1573 buried towards the bottom is the news on the approval. While I am happy that we are making progress I would like to see an earlier route into Chander. Only 2 trips into Chandler at 10a & 12n, come on...there must be many more people who work in Chandler, or could use the shuttle to get to the Chandler Fashion park n ride to justify having more and earlier trips into Chandler. Plus only 2 trips into Phoenix, same holds true. The City Council approved the award of several new contracts that have been in the planning stages for several months. Foremost among them was the award of the $364,000 contract to All Aboard America!, to begin providing commuter transit services form Maricopa to Chandler and Phoenix. The Downtown Phoenix Express will have two daily round trips, during weekdays. It would leave Maricopa at 5:30 am and 6:30 am The South Chandler Connector will also have two daily round trips during weekdays to the western Chandler area... will leave Maricopa at 10 am and Noon, with a scheduled return at 1 pm and 3 pm.

Alert | On April 28, a new program will begin for the City of Maricopa - the MaricopaXpress bus service will accept its first passengers. The bus will pick up passengers in Maricopa at 5:50 a.m. and 6:40 a.m., Monday through Friday, and make three stops: the Central Avenue Bus Station, Phoenix City Hall and the State Capitol Building. The reverse route will begin at the State Capitol Building with pick-ups at 4:10 p.m. and 5:10 p.m.
You will be riding in style aboard the All Aboard America motorcoach, saving you time and money. In addition, riders will be able to relax, read, work on laptops or visit with co-workers.
Stop by the MaricopaXpress booth at the Maricopa Salsa Festival to check out the bus and receive your free pass*. The pass will be good for the first two months of service. Once they expire, one-way trips will cost $3.00, $2.00 for seniors and children five and under ride free.
Visit maricopa-az.gov for more information and the bus

Alert | | Wouldn't it make more sense to run a route to the 40th st & Pecos park n ride... people could catch the other downtown running busses from there, as well as busses running to other parts of the valley. Seems that this plan has not been thought thru very well and offers very little for the residents here.

Alert | | If you had expectations, why didn't you share them with the organizers of this effort instead of waiting until they announced their plans? I really don't understand people who have expectations yet refuse to share them before a decision is made.

Alert | | Things tend to happen around here with very little fanfare and we ususally don't hear about it til after decisions have been made. The decision made just goes to show how little foresight the city leaders have. I can only hope this 2x day mass transit will grow with more frequency and more routes, including the 40th St & Pecos route. I am optimistic that at least a start has been made, but disappointed in what seems to be a lack of truly examining what would be an effective option.

Alert | i think it was an effective option. We needed a solution NOW!!! This one will work until something better comes along or someone voices a request for additional stops. Why provide something that no one has voiced interest in. Just a thought.

Alert | | Normally I would buy the 'last minute' notice argument, but not this time. The media has covered this transit story, several times, over the last 3 months. Plenty of time for a resident to get involved and give input.

Alert | I could be wrong but I don't recall seeing any news on this until just now. I disagree that it is an effective option chevyguy, it is something, but not necessarily effective as it serves only those going downtown. I still think a route including the Pecos Park n Ride could serve a much larger demographic, as well as a shuttle to Chander Fashion Park n Ride perhaps. If this fails you can dismiss any hope of mass transit making another appearance here for a long while. With the hope that the mass transit grows I do hope it succeeds but I have my doubts.

Alert | I am moving to the copa in the next few weeks and work downtown. I think both a shuttle to the park and ride and a bus downtown would work well. I think I would rather pay $6 a day and ride a tour coach, than ride the city bus. There is something to be said for comfort. Also, it could be a nice a draw for new home buyers. The prices can't be any better out here, but we need all the advertisment we can get.

Alert | Heard about the bidding issues back in January (why support local business??). Have heard nothing on this until today when I read it in the Republic. Come on this site to find more information and don't find ANY information on the new bus service. Tried the amazingly terrible http://www.maricopa-az.gov site and, again, NO information. Sorry to be so negative, but I was excited to hear this news and can now find nothing else about it. Disappointment has ensued. Anyone have more info? Official departure times and locations? How the schedule coordinates with the city bus schedule since many users' final destination is not downtown? How the evening departure times (~4:00 and ~5:00) might coincide with actual work end times? etc etc etc

Alert | How about a couple of stops on the way out of Maricopa?? Don't really want to drive south to go north. But this is a good start. Light rail next!

Alert | Ya'll better ride this bus. If there are not enough riders, the route will be cancelled like the QueenCreek - Tempe route. Couple more stops would be a good idea but they will have to deal with parking issues so not sure if that's gonna happen. A second route to Chandler regional hospital and Chandler mall would be great!! Does someone know who can we write to for suggesting the new route to Chandler? Someone in Chandler transportation or is there a Maricopa transportation department?

Alert | Both Chandler and Tempe are in communication with the City of Maricopa in regards to additional routes for MaX. JohnDoe, the routes you suggested for Chandler are actually the ones they want to add. No word on Tempe in regards to their routes.
I think the bus service from Maricopa to downtown Phoenix for employment purposes is a great idea. The city needed some sort of alternative transportation, and since Valley-Metro doesn't service us (and never will), I'm glad this happened.
I'm also not surprised Chandler and Tempe want to expand on the MaX service, either. Both of those cities are looking to cash in since we don't have any of the retail or entertainment that they can offer. The cities figure if they can find a way to shuttle us out there, we'll gladly spend our hard-earned money somewhere other than Maricopa. In the long run, Maricopa would only be hurting itself since they're not encouraging or enticing anyone to spend within the city limits. Essentially, good for Chandler/Tempe, bad for Maricopa. They should be doing more to keep people spending at home, but alas, that is a discussion for a different thread than this one.

Alert | | Did I miss something? I see people talking about a big comfy coach to ride to Phoenix, like it is a big bus similar to Harrah's coach. I thought I saw an RFP for 3-smaller 30 passenger Van-style coaches like Mayo's and other facilities use for shuttle service. Did they change the type of vehicle or is this still what we agreed to purchase?
