I drive 20mph under the flow of traffic all the time.  I like to set my cruise from 55-59mph.  The delta of 75mph and 58mph is about 12mpg, I'll drive slow and enjoy the gas savings.

If you people insist on breaking the law, I can't stop you.  Its people like you, who feel they are above the law that are the problem.

I set the cruise at 65 which with my vehicle is roughly 62-63 realistically.... If I feel I am impeding the flow of traffic, I'll bump it up a few.  You can point fingers all you want buddy... That doesn't change the fact that by driving 20 mph under the flow of traffic, you are the road hazard...

"Its people like you, who feel they are above the law that are the problem."

You must feel so self-important.  What makes you so different from the people going 10mph over the speed limit.  Both of are doing it for reasons other than safety... Some drive fast to save time, you drive slow to save fuel... Both create hazardous situations on the freeways... IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU that make highways less safe.  You're just too self-righteous to accept that.

The signs say LIMIT 65MPH - they don't say anything about a minimum.

If they said MINIMUM 65MPH, then I would do that.

Its called a speed LIMIT, because of people who like you who think the 347 is the Autobahn.  If you people left 5 minutes earlier, then you wouldn't have to endanger other people by your recklessness.

It's not against the law to go 10 mph under the speed LIMIT...  Of course unless there is a minimum speed LIMIT.  Just because it says 65, doesn't mean by law you must drive 65, you may drive any speed up to a LIMIT of 65.

Thank you for explaining what a speed LIMIT is.  I would have never figured that out by myself.

Now if I could just get YOU to understand what causes accidents on the freeway.  You think it is speed, and then quote the autobahn as if it were an unsafe freeway because people drive fast on it.  It is one of the safer highways in the world.  Do some research.

http://www.hwysafety.com/hwy_montana_2001.htm

1. After the new Speed Limits were established, interstates fatal accidents went up 111%. From a modern low of 27 with no daytime limits, to a new high of 56 fatal accidents with speed limits.

2. On interstates and federal primary highways combined, Montana went from a modern low of 101 with no daytime limits, to a new high of 143 fatal accidents with speed limits.

3. After a 6 year downward trend in the percentage of multiple vehicle accidents on its 2 lane primary highways, multiple vehicle accident rates increased again.

4. With the expectation of higher speed when there was no daytime limit, Montana’s seat belt usage was well above the national average on its highways without a primary law, lane and road courtesy increased, speeds remained relatively stable and fatal accidents dropped to a modern low. After the new limits, fatal accidents climbed to a modern high on these classifications of highway, road courtesy decreased and flow conflict accidents rose again.

I'm not saying you have to drive faster or slower. Drive 55 all you want. But if traffic is driving considerably faster than you, you are creating an unsafe situation which leads to accidents...

You shouldn't be criticizing other drivers for doing the same thing you do.

+1 for the turtle crew

I keep at or under 60, (in the right lane of course) and if no one is around I'll drop closer to 50. avg 42mpg now covering 60miles/day and no more road rage. funny thing is my ride time is still the same as when I drove 75-80 with anger and aggression.

lately I am noticing more and more folks behind me that stay behind me.

one thing though, I do not use cruise control. sometimes when a particular situation calls for it I gas it to help things flow safely when it gets a little dense. usually lasts all of 20 secs, people make their moves and the cluster moves on and I return to my fuel sipping pace.

When I drive 55 MPH down 347, I am in NO WAY creating a hazard or breaking any law. I stay in the right lane and mind my own business. There are no blind corners or any point along the way where I might just 'POP UP' in front of the car behind me. I don't speed up and slow down. The ONLY time there is a potential hazard is when a driver behind me drives unsafely. I am in complete compliance with all laws. I even use my turn signal when I change lanes and turn. My cruise control and I are very good friends. I've also compared my speedo to 2 different GPS units and am confident that I am in-fact doing 55 MPH.

Probably the only place where I might piss people off is when I see a red light in front of me. I lift off the gas, shift to neutral, and let physics slow me down instead of hurrying up to stop. Most of the time I don't have to stop at all. Saves brakes and gas. Have you incorporated that one yet RT?

klix, you got it right! Drive right and Pass left
However our wonderful "turtle crew" that drives the 347 and sets their cruise to 55-59 creates the rolling roadblocks as they leave their cruise set and the turtle going 59 passes the turtle going 55. What a wonderful chain reaction of brake lights this causes.

Passing means passing! Accelerate past the car you are passing and move back right. You can then set your cruise to whatever you want.

I don't do the roadblock thing . But I also don't put the hammer down to pass .

I am settling in the comfort of the dark-side.  I acknowledge the severity of my actions and I find great pride in being part of the "Turtle Crew"!

This is extreme pageantry!

Good job buzymom. And you can stay in the left lane as far as I'm concerned. You'll still be passing me by 10MPH.

Speed up, slow down, move over, pull your weeds, don't park on the street, don't leave your trash can out. Whine, whine , whine. Where is the cheese and crackers?
