Alert | | The idea behind that is S L O W down all the time, not only when you see the van. It's quite simple, drive within the speed limit and you have nothing to worry about. As I said in a previous post "Thank you for your contribution to our tax revenue" I guess 70 or less in not sufficient to some of you. Hahahahaha! I'm just saying what my experience is: people usually speed back up after photo vans and police cars. I'm not stirring anything up. | | Joined: Jul 2005

What is the speed limit between Casa Blanca and Maricopa, going southbound? Have they fixed the signs or is it still 65 for people coming on 347 from Casa Blanca and 55 for people that were on 347 the whole time? This is an honest question, I'm not trying to stir anything up. | | Joined: Jul 2005

That's a great question Jason, last night I was looking for the 65 mph sign after Casa Blanca, and it doesn't exist. So apparently the speed limit drops to 55 at Casa Blanca and stays at 55 all the way until the RED entrance . I wonder what the photo enforcement SUV is dialed in at for enforcing this zone.

Also, he was driving a dodge magum, the windows are pretty small, he had his visor down, a hat on and sunglasses, plus he sits real low and puts his hand on top of the steering wheel (I know, he thinks he is a cool or something lol). This is just the way he normally drives. So my next question is...Is it true that if they cant see your face clearly they cant give you a ticket? </div>
No offense here but with all these things obstructing his view, how can he possibly drive defensively? Sounds like an accident ready to happen.<img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/unsure.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Unsure' align='absmiddle'></div>
Well, sunglasses, a hat and a visor dont really "obstruct" your view of the road. My point was that a photo taken looking into the car wouldnt really have a clear view of his face.

There is still no sign. It should make things interesting when the tickets start trickling in. The van was parked today after Casa Blanca with no speed limit sign. I am really wanting to know what speed that camera is programmed to take photos at. | | "Wait a minute. What did you just say? You're predicting $4-a-gallon gas? ... That's interesting. It would be interesting and informative if you could keep us updated on this as to the process, if any. Hope you can beat it!
I will keep you posted... fingers are crossed for a warning ticket!

Nope! no ticket yet! And there won't be, because I don't break the law! My thought is this: "Generate revenue, save lives" Totally okey with me! Maybe now I will get my tax dollars worth! GOTTA LOVE IT!!!!!!</div>

Get em guys!</div> Keep living in your little bubble in which photo radar actually works. Meanwhile, everyone else in "real life" will be getting in near accidents due to someone who was going 65 anyway slamming on their brakes to go 50, especially considering the confusion of where 55 mph ends and 65 begins. Personally, I just keep it around 65 near Maricopa, then speed up to 70+ after I have passed the van. This is usually because I can't wait to get away from the people slamming on their brakes every five seconds at the beginning of the 347 NB. Yeah, photo radar really works. ..

Alert | | They should have one every two miles. Eveyone one of them do not need a camera just change the location of the one that has a camera around. Then maybe the speed limit will be followed all the way and solve the problem of people suddenly slowing.

Alert | The 347 is becoming a menace. The speed limit changes several times in confusing ways. I would rather the entire speed limit be 55 than 55, 65, 55, 65, 55... How many times does it change now? Frankly, people drive in a manner where they typically would not expect frequent speed limit changes.
I was flashed the other day for going 63. I rechecked my speedometer several times wondering how I could have been flashed for going so slow.
Also, I don't think it is legal to put those signs up so close to the actual radar station. They put them up only occassionally and then typically within a hundred feet or so of the vehicle.
We should rise up and protest this. Our ancestors threw tea into the harbor because of the injustices of the British. We can make a stand on this. It is not acceptable in our community.
Our politicians are allowing this to happen though. The mayor could make a stand on this but of course wouldn't. Maricopa hates it's people.

Alert | I agree on the issue with people stepping on their brakes causing some issues, but again;
1) 2-3 seconds of lead time will give you ample time to slow down/stop 2) Initially they advertised that tickets would happen for 11 over, which means that if you drive an even 65 mph you should be fine, thus the 55-65 confusion can be avoided.
Come up with all the reasons why speeding on 347 is your right, safer, more efficient, etc, and I will stay in my "little bubble?" and advocate following the rules.
If you have ever worked on complex multi-variable real-time models, they usually run very smoothly until you introduce variability outside the range the model can adjust for. Now I have never worked traffic models, but have worked on other complex engineered processes and suspect the same holds true, feel free to enlighten me if I am incorrect. The best way to maintain equilibrium in the system is to limit the variability.
If you drive 55 mph for 16 miles, it should take just shy of 18 minutes (17.45). When was the last time you drove 347 in the morning in 18 minutes?
Now visualize everyone drives 55, leaving 3 seconds between each car, signals properly, gets over fully if making a left on to Wild Horse Pass and doesn't attempt to anticipate a slow vehicle and cut in line at Queen Creek.
* Better travel times * Better fuel economy * Less environment impact * Lower incidents of road rage * Less wear and tear on your vehicle * Less accidents * Less need for emergency services/lower taxes
We can widen 347 and still have unnecessary accidents due to the variability.
One final point, in any system of variability, reducing or fixing just a few data points can dramatically alter the entire results. Knowing this, I aim to keep you, your family, my family and myself safe.

Alert | What this has done is slowed people down, I've noticed and others have noticed. Plus, why speed? To save 1 minute? I've caught up to so many people at the I-10 ramp that flew past me 5 miles back going into town. it's a waste of time and gas to speed on that road. They'll never learn.

I was speeding on the 347 a couple weeks ago and guess what...they flashed me! I was mailed a ticket a couple days ago! Hope that makes your day!
Actually it was just a warning letter, so I guess I'm off the hook this time...sorry if that was anti-climactic for you.

Alert | I had my warning letter waiting for me when I got back yesterday from vacation. They only listed my license plate and date/time but did not indicate what the offense was for. My carpool partner and I clearly recall there were no warning signs up, so there was no way they could have given me a legal ticket anyways.
I don't dispute I was speeding, but I do agree the photo radar is is more about revenue generation than safety. In my case, I got caught as I was just coming out of RED during a traffic break in the morning commute. There were no cars around me and I was in the right lane... hard to dispute I was doing anything dangerous.
KHarless - I've driven behind you a few times on the morning commute and we tend to drive about the same relaxed rate and style... but there is no doubt that virtually everyone exceeds the speed limit (even you, <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/wink.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Wink' align='absmiddle'> ). I'm definitely more concerned about the excessive speeders, tailgaters, and aggressive drivers rather than somebody passing me going 5-10mph faster.
