i seen it flash 8 times within the 2 minutes it took to get past it on Thursday morning. assuming a ticket is $100, and if that rate of ticketing was steady for one hour that would be $24,000 in tickets. $24,000 more dollars of our cities residents money not going back to the city.

I have a serious problem with the delusion that photo radar will make 347 safer. as soon as the flashes started Thursday morning the car in front of me slammed on their brakes and slowed to 25 mph. that is some serious suspicious activity, and if a police officer seen that they may have pulled them over for a little check up. A DPS officer i know will routinely drive under the speed limit and pull over those that will not pass him, usually to find their suspicious activity was warranted.

Also, if its not dark and a person drives by that camera at 85 mph they may not notice the flash and continue driving at an excessive rate of speed. they may not even know they were speeding until they got the ticket a few weeks later. if an officer was present they would have been stopped and made aware of their speed immediately. where is all this safety coming from if the person speeding doesn't slow down?

i really think photo radar is nothing more than a revenue generator. you may not even find out you were speeding until weeks later, how is that any help?

Follow your bliss. Happiness is a conscious decision

I stand corrected then, the article originally posted must have been inaccurate.</div>

not the first time you have been wrong...

SPEEDER!

(lol.. this should piss him off)

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

Will this catch people going 11+ under the speed limit too?

Never pay any type of photo radar or red light camera ticket.

If they were trying to get people to slow down they wouldn't be hiding. DPS contracts out this service to an outside company and they get a large percentage of the fine. So naturally they hide to maximize revenue. And if you think they will allow 11 mph over the limit you are dreaming. When the DPS increased the speed limit on Freeways they allowed 6 Mph over and that was at the Officers discretion. The automatic camera on the van has no mercy. Be careful what you wish for sometimes it bites you in the butt.

I still don't see why people can't just drive the speed limit. Anytime a cop is not around they drive like crazy, anytime a cop is around they drive like a drunk trying not to get caught. Just drive the stinking speed limit.

I read somewhere if you don't repond they will send a nother ticket then send someone to serve you it and if you don't sign after 8 months they culk it up.

You may get served eventually, but all you have to do is go to court and ask to questions your accuser, which you have the right to do, the case will then be instantly thrown out since you can't possibly question a camera. It is not a myth either, I have personall experience with it in the City of Scottsdale, the second I asked to question my accuser I got a dirty look from the Judge and she dismissed the case. Camera tickets are just used as a source of revenue, they never have and never will hold up in court.

This is a van or SUV that's mobile, like what they do in Tempe on city streets.

You can't expect much when the officers don't even know how to drive. I've seen them on I-17 and the 202 going 85 with traffic either keeping up or passing them. Then last night on 347 I was stuck behind a DPS officer pacing a Corolla going 53 MPH (in the 65) for half of 347. I so badly wanted to flash the officer, since that is the proper way to indicate you want to pass, but I didn't want to risk a misunderstanding and get a ticket. Finally the officer sped up to 60 and a gap opened up allowing me to pass. No, the officer did not pull me over for going 65. But I got to watch the chaos in my rear-view mirror as the car in the left lane going more than 10 under tried to merge into the right lane. The officer should have pulled over the Corolla, because every time the officer speed up, so did the Corolla (until that last segment).

And no, the officer wasn't going anywhere. He merged onto 347 from the shoulder, cruised for a little while and then pulled off onto the shoulder. He didn't seem to care about all the traffic tailgating and the chaos that Corolla was causing.

No, because it isn't as profitable.

I seem to recall that they don't ticket until 11 MPH over, but don't quote me on that. I would keep it to within 5 MPH to be safe.

Boy are people missing the point. It's not about making us safer, it's about making money. We don't need speed cameras, we need better control at the intersections that is where all the accidents are happening. When some moron is tuning when it's not his/her turn and the get smucked. They can't wait 5 minutes at an INTERSECTION, so they go through a yellow or red light. It's not about going 75 in 65.

I'm sure I got a ticket on Thursday coming home on the bridge - I was doing 65 (in a 55?) and quit frankly I was going with the flow and didn't slow down, my bad. I'm waiting for my ticket but I still think it's BS. On Friday at that same spot I slowed knowing the 55 MPH speed limit and the camera was coming, well guess what, it's now 65 and the camera is gone. I knew it was coming and I almost caused an accident behind me for all the ones who didn't know it was 55 (I'm not getting another ticket) but ADOT changed it. Well you can't the speed limit from one day to the next and will let them know that tomorrow.

From the 10 to Maricopa it should be 65 the whole way ( so we can at least set the cruise), except coming closer town, it should taper down like it does.

Almost EVERY accident happens at intersection like, Cobblestone, Casa Blanca, Rinker, Riggs and that terrible intersections that claimed a life yesterday. They need to worry more about yellow and red light runners; and close that intersection on that curve all together and make them take a different route.

OR put more money into cloverleafs, that would for sure solve the problems, I wish I had a billion dollars, and do it myself.

If you get a ticket in a 55 on 347 for 65 or less MPH it should be for Waste of Finite Resources and not Speed in Excess of Reasonable and Prudent. It should only cost around $50-70 and will not be reported to your insurance. If it is for Speed in Excess of Reasonable and Prudent then you should fight it because that will go to your insurance and it is not the right kind of ticket.

I watched very closely for a 65 MPH sign yesterday coming into Maricopa and did not see one for south of Casa Blanca Road. As far as I can tell, it is 55, which is absolutely ridiculous, because the other direction is 65. I think this is another case of them forgetting to put up signs. I'll probably get lambasted for suggesting this, just like when they had forgotten to take down 45 MPH signs during the construction even though it turned out I was right.

I'd really like to hear from all the einsteins who claimed that the 347 really was'nt that bad.....won't be high on the list, and things are much worse elsewhere. Of course you were wrong. But keep attacking the posters who bring this to light. The 347 was the first to receive this....why? Because of the excessive speeds and amount of wrecks. </div>

Explain then why they aren't putting them at the intersections with the most and most damaging wrecks. Such as 347/Maricopa Rd, Riggs, 347/RED/CF?

Why at Rinker, where there have been relatively few and minor wrecks?

I agree. I go 65 though all the intersections and have no problem stopping, even when the light changes in front of me. Contrast this to the "non-SPEEDER" along side me that just blows right through. Who is the safer one here? Any thinking individual would not say the guy going 55...
