As a recent victim of a stop-sign runner t-boning my car. I'd have to say that people just don't look for any traffic. I notice that I'm a target in my van, my car, and my bicycle. Best you can do is drive defensively. Drive prominently in your lane, don't drive in someone's blind spot. Know where traffic is all around you so you can find the safest way to avoid a situation, ect. Though sometimes its not going to be enough, so wear a helmet on your bike.

For everyone, please watch for any traffic. (Don't drive drunk, and don't drive tired.)

Rich, the extra loud pipes are the out come of wanting more power. Opening up the exhuast pipes creates louder noise but also allows the motor to run better. That is why I have loud pipes. I get more horse power and better gas milage.

See what I know.  And here I thought they were just trying to be even more obnoxious.

I stand corrected.

for some reason, i doubt your sincerity.

i find loud pipes fairly obnoxious on occasion as well. unlike the feeling i get from you however, i dont consider the occasional annoying loud rider obnoxious enough to want to infringe on his enjoyment of his or her ride.

never said you did that, did i?

you are missing my point i think. you are blaming motorcycles for not being seen by cars. at the same time people (including you) are upset that some riders do such thing as drive with their brights on, and have loud exhausts in an effort to help alleviate the whole issue.

im done though, i think. not much point in trying to talk to you.

People like 'me' never said anything about bikes driving with their brights.

I did say something about the loud exhaust, as it is clearly not a safety issue, which is why several cities have 'noise ordinances' against them.

Seeing as you lump all of us 'non-riders' into 1 group, there is no point in this.

fair enough, and im really not trying to be argumentative here.

you did say that you didnt like loud pipes, not brights, i appreciate the difference there. however, you are complaining about loud pipes, which the majority of riders do use as a safety item, regardless of noise ordinances. "loud pipes save lives" is a common quote for the whole thing.

i have known many people who ride, and while i can not speak for every single rider obviously, i have never met a single person (including the civic drivers) who get loud pipes to be annoying. civics get them for increased performance, and bikes get them for that, plus the whole "loud pipes save lives" thing. no one invests upwards of 800 dollars on a motorcycle exhaust to be annoying.

Carefree does have a defined noise ordinance against motorcycle exhaust.

Thanks for your input.

Move on to something you can contribute too.
