I just saw on azcentral.com that the SB is closed at the 10 SB, due to yet another crash. Anyone have more info? My husband should be on his way home right now..

It appeared to be four vehicles. It appears a silver passenger car was T-boned. It looks like three other cars were involved. The silver car, had a male driver, he didn't look good

The accident was headed NB, hope that info helps.

The reason I said it looked headed NB, is because the cars directions were headed NB. So, SB is closed.

I am not an accident investigator, but it looked like a car was Tboned. Sorry, I am not that much help. I hope your husband makes it home safely!

When are they going to put a light there at 347 and Wild Horse?? How many people have to get in an accident or lose their life? I use Wild Horse quite frequently and watch as others turn right and have other cars come up behind them and blair the horn then swerve around them flipping them off.. Are you that dumb that you would put someones life in your hands. When your on 347 and you are coming up to Wild Horse Pass PLEASE Get Over in The Left Hand Lane.... So if someone turning on from Wild Horse and has to get up to speed they don't cut you off. Seriously SLOW DOWN by Wild Horse Pass!!!!! Im tired of reading that someone lost a life!!!! Its sad when all we have to do is slow down...

I guess this person will never learn his lesson. I don't know how many times I have seen near crashes at this location. I've witnessed three wrecks since I've moved here in 2003.

Amazes me how my stupid drivers there are in this state.. and everyone of them seem to drive the 347.

I wish peace to the families invovled

347 is still closed, in both directions, at Riggs. We just came home from Tempe and had to take 1-10 to Riggs.

I wonder why it's taking so long to clean up a 4 car fatal? I was thinking it was Haz-Mat rollover or something. You can see from Riggs that they have the big flood lights set up over on 347 at the scene.

^ ^ ^ yeah, laugh it up liberal...just like you did during 9-11....finding tragedy to fit your agenda, way to go!!!! woo hoo!

anyway, back on topic.....I am in full agreement about putting a light in that crossing, and I can't figure out for the life of me why soooo many sheeple drive like freakin' lunatics in that area.
Im always on the left coming from I-10 and getting near that crossing and Im ALWAYS on the lookout and to be safe from either direction, people turning into wild horse pass and those making a right turn....I knew this would happen again sooner or later.

We arrived coming back from visiting friends in Mesa and going to Chandler mall....we got caught up and turned around on wild horse, than found out Queen Creek exit closed, than saw a staggering amount of cars on Riggs, and went to Casa Blanca road.....than finally turned left, there weren't many cars going northbound at this time, and there wasn't many cars coming from the riggs exit....this was around 8:30pm or so, maybe 9. We went on 85239.com for awhile, but it was not up and running at these times, now it is.

Anyway, they should really put a light there.

Crazy story....

So I was leaving Maricopa today traveling North on 347 with my two kids in the ole mini van and for some reason I decided to turn right at Riggs and go to I-10 instead of driving through past Wild Horse Pass. My wife calls me about an hour later telling me about the fatal. According to my recollection, the fatal occurred approximately the same time I would have been traveling on that road if I hadn't turned on Riggs. I have taken Riggs only one other time in the past year. I feel like an angel was on my side. I will never, ever, take that road again. My wife had a near miss a few months back because of the same type of driver turning left. She was so shook up she had to pull off the road. Its not worth it. God be with the victims and their families.

There is no reason for that road to exist. It should be blocked off of a light put in. That intersection is lethal. How many more people have to die? Wake up whoever is in charge of that decision.

It is amazing. How many people have to die there before they do something about it

I do not think putting a light there is the answer. Putting a light on a highway in the middle of nowhere is just not a good idea.

I really don't think they need that road there. I think they should just dig it up and put a dead on on wild horse pass.

At least they did a good job of the traffic off of Riggs. We went to a movie and figured it would have over by the time we got out.. but it was still closed. At 10:30 Riggs was busy, but the DPS were making people turn on red keeping the flow moving.. I don't think it added any time to our commute at all.

I agree. Since they won't be digging up the road what they need to do is make the 347 a full fledged freeway. An onramp there would make that intersection much safer.

This belief is one of the things that causes accidents. The 347 is a highway - there is a stop sign at the turn to get onto the highway, there is no stop or yeild sign on 347. The reason that there is no stop or yield sign there is that the cars traveling on 347 have the right of way - always. When a driver pulls out in front of oncoming traffic without having enough room to accellerate without cutting off the flow of traffic, that driver is in the wrong - the driver with the right of way should not have to slow down or pull over to get out of the way of turning traffic.

That intersection was very poorly designed. There should be an accelleration lane (or even better, an on/off ramp), but there isn't, so the responsibility lies in the lap of those turning. If you have to wait longer than you want to turn, you should go to the next exit on the freeway and avoid that turn. If you don't have the patience to wait till it's safe to turn, however long that takes, you shouldn't be taking the side road. Unless it's someone's fist time driving on 347, everyone making that turn knows the flow of traffic they are turning into.

From what I heard on the news (if they were correct), the cause of the accident was someone stopping at that stop sign then deciding to go for it and make the turn when they didn't have enough room.

I'd like to see a cop stationed there and pulling over everyone who made unsafe turns - they'd get a steady streem of people to pull over and educate on right-of-way laws. (Since while it'd be the best thing to do, I don't think they'll be putting onramps in anytime soon.)

That's so sad to hear! My friend came over at about 6 and it took her over an hour on riggs. Well we decided to go to dinner at like 8pm and came home at 11pm and the road was still blocked off. I wonder what time they finished up?

I was heading NB on 347 and came upon the accident only a couple of minutes after it happened. I called 911 to report it and I was the first report of the accident, so it must have happened minutes before I arrived at the intersection. There were injured people just walking dazed in the middle of the NB lanes where most of the cars ended after the accident. The car traveling SB on 347 that T-boned the person at fault landed in the SB lanes right past the accident. Luckily that person looked like the only one not seriously injured.

There was a lot of debris on the roadway, however, by the 10pm news that had already announced that the fatality was at fault. If that's the case, why would the road be closed THAT long afterwards?

Censorship is the tool of those who have the need to hide actualities from themselves and others. Their fear is only their inability to face what is real. Somewhere in their upbringing they were shielded against the total facts of our experience. They were only taught to look one way when many ways exist.

It wouldn't surprise me if they close off the left turn lane at wild horse pass once they finally widen the 347/Queen Creek on/off ramp at i-10

I agree with the posters who suggest an acceleration lane. That is so smart. But during rush hour it would probably need a traffic control light to limit cars turning otherwise we'd have a huge back-up. There is a good article in the East Valley Tribune about this accident. We all need to email ADOT about this. I had a friend who worked there who said that they make things a priority based on complaints.

I was driving 347 south once, nearing that intersection. Like others have stated here I always[i/] travel in the left lane until I am past that point because it seems there are always people turning right off that road onto SB 347.

Well, this day was different. It wasn't the folks trying to turn onto 347 that created a potentially deadly problem.

I was following an older Winnebago. We were both traveling 60-65. Some moron in a beat up old pickup truck, that was towing another beat up old pickup truck, headed north, deciding to do a U-turn at that intersection right in front of us! Not only was the Winnbago coming at him in the nearest lane, but there were also cars in the right lane. As soon as I realized what was happening, I thought for sure we were all goners. I don't know how on Earth the driver of the RV got slowed down enough to not cream both of those trucks to slam into cars to his right to avoid the trucks.

We must have had azsouthendzone's angel that day.
