Alert | | The only problem is people don't know how to drive. If people would just pay attention there wouldn't be any problems.

Alert | It seems like it's been at least 4 just since the road work began. I am thankful that I work from home.....but my husband is on it DAILY and I just don't trust all the irrational drivers that are out there.
Is a few minutes of your day really worth taking your own life or that of another?
Makes me sick....truly

Alert | I am not implying that at all. People think that lane jumping is a time saver as well, and that doesn't necessarily mean that they are speeding to do so. I am STATING that careless people are costing people to lose loved ones on this road.
Is that a little more CLEAR?<img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/wink.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Wink' align='absmiddle'>

That's what I keep wondering! Of course, the official reports aren't in yet...
I think a CONSISTENT law enforcement presence would make a big difference...maybe drivers would be more focused on driving within the law than doing whatever it is that decreases their ability to be a safe driver...it has been several months since being able to count more than 5 law enforcement vehicles in a single trip to town...I think we have all lost a bit of driving focus because of that...

Alert | | Speeding did not cause this accident. It was driving to slow in the left lane. Real though speed does contribute to the amount of damage and also injuries and death. I am guessing what happened is the person make the left thought they had enough time to get accross 347 but the car that hit him/her was traveling up wards of 85 to 90mph. Yes the person making the left should have waiting.

Get ready Stephen.....you're going to be late a lot more. Casa Blanca, Riggs and Firebird Raceway turning into speeding traffic will always be a recipe for disaster. That's where most of these terrible accidents keep happening. I'm leaving a half hour earlier each day and it seems to be helping. Every time I hear a report, or a siren, my wife and I are checking in with each other.

Alert | | These accidents have been jumping up ever since they started this construction. Perhaps next time they can fix both lanes coming into town or going out of town instead of one lane in each direction.

Alert | | I heard the accident happened because someone tried to turn left from Casa Blanca and got t-boned. If this is the case, it has nothing to do with speed. That is a very dangerous place to turn left.

Alert | Again....alow me to clarify. My point is that CARELESS drivers cause unnecessary deaths. A great deal can fall under the umbrella of "careless". Seriously.........I was making a generalization, not calling out speeders. SHEESH.

I have to agree on this issue, increased, along with consistent law enforcement is not only needed, but necessary to save lives. This will not only reduce the speed of drivers, but increase the awareness of their driving maneuver choices! It's not always (in fact rarely) the fact that people are speeding that causes these horrific, life changing accidents, it's the choice of maneuvers these drivers use! People are FAR too aggressive on all the roads, actually in general and it is causing not only deaths, but the forever life altering affects of the deceased's loved ones and friends!
Back in PA, we had a very similar "highway", Route 30! It was not in it's infancy (i.e., population and increased traffic because of), but there were lives lost on a fairly regular basis due to speed and aggressive maneuvering on the parts of the drivers who traveled it every day. There was a police car parked along the median every 3 miles, some with "dummies" and some with real cops. Because you never knew which was which, you always paid more attention when you were approaching one, period! It worked very well and I would love to see something similar here! Not only on 347, but all over the Valley and surrounding high traffic roadways!
Just my $.02, but I would really like to see a change and I truly believe an increased "presence" would be of great influence!
Side Note: The speed limit is NOT the speed of the traffic flowing around you, but it is actually the legally posted limit! I am breaking no law what so ever by going 65 mph when others are going 85 mph! <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/whistling.gif' height='20' width='20' title='Whistling' align='absmiddle'>

Alert | | Oh, one more thing: I know it takes tax dollars to increase the presence of law enforcement, but I think it is a MUCH better use of my tax dollars when it goes to saving lives, as opposed to paving a temporary City Hall parking lot! | | “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.”

Alert | | Maybe now the agencies that control this road can work together to help save lives. Does the body count have to get to a certain level before they act?

Alert | | A few simple rules for people driving 347 would make life alot easier for everyone. Use the left lane only for passing and turning, use your signal BEFORE you turn or change lanes at all times, be very very aware when crossing casa blanca rd and riggs rd for any traffic. Also, a hint to people who drive safely and would like to get to work on time, law enforcement officers are told not to issue a citation unless the vehicle is going at least 11 miles over the posted speed limit. This is not a license to recklessly drive fast or tailgait or run people off the road. Just, if its safe and the lane is clear u can go 75 in a posted limit of 65 safely .

Obviously people do not, and will not follow these rules.

Do you believe that the addition of more police officers on the sides of the highway will cause people to learn how to drive, and follow these rules?
