So I have noticed a dead coyote on the west side of the 347 for over a week now and no one has cleaned it up.... Who is in charge of this? ADOT, Maricopa pd? Either way that rotting carcass needs to be taken care of. Who can I call?

Actually no one needs to clean it up. There is no one to call. If you want it removed, go out there with a shovel and some gloves.

once upon a time long long ago I called animal control and was told that they will remove domestic animals but not wildlife.

I spoke with Animal Control about a month ago regarding a dog that had beed there for a few weeks. The girl I spoke with was very nice and said that because 347 was technically part of the Gila River Reservation they were not allowed to remove an animal from that land whether it was dead, injured or in need of medical attention. The girl said that we would have to call Gila River, I looked on their web site but couldn't figure out who to call as there was no "Animal Control" listing...maybe "Public Safety"???

There is no way I'm removing a animal that has been sitting there rotting. Sorry i don't have the gear to keep me from catching something...

I saw some poor guy, my guess is an ADOT employee, removing a small horse from 347 near the Queen Creek overpass. He had a huge plastic bag and a pair of gloves, a surgical face mask, and a shovel. That was about it. He would approach the animal, make an adjustment, and then retreat behind his truck gagging. I thought at the time that if that were my job I would just quit right then and there.

The only way you get anything done with GRIC is to show up at their goverment center. I have had zero luck getting anyone on the phone or getting them to answer an e-mail.

Maybe you could try smoke signals.

Why in the world would Maricopa PD be responsible for a dead carcass on the side of the road? Police officers are hired to enforce the law and keep our community safe...not clean dead animals off the side of the road.

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

If it were big enough to obstruct a lane or otherwise present a hazard, then I can see how the police would get involved. You know, like how they coordinate departments and services to clean an accident up and get the road cleared?

You think dead rotting animals are safe? . . . If anything the police would have more influence getting someone out there to take care of it.

I've seen three coyotes laying out on 347 all last week at different spots. Poor little guys.

Many police departments have an Animal Control Officer, which is why people might look toward the police for help with dead animals. A dog off a leash is a violation of the law and a public safety issue, which would be police jurisdiction. A dead animal is a public health issue so that's a bit different.

There should be someone responsible for this kind of cleanup.

Can you say---- Gas and a match?????? Or we could all swerve a few times and mush it into the new asphalt, before they pave over top of it and call it a speed bump!
