Yesterday my car broke down on the side of the road, I was with my two toddlers. Well my husband got caught going 91 trying to get to us, stupid I know. The police officer said that next time something like this happens that I should have just called DPS. He said that they will actually pick you up and sometimes tow your car for you. He didnt give my husband the phone number. But does anyone know about this? Or the phone number for it?

That's a new one on me. I know that have emergency vehicles that asist when you are in a dangerous location. But towing and taxi service are new. Wonder if they'll drive me home after a night at the bar?

Isn't that a brand new car?!

If you call DPS' non-emergency line, they can sometimes arrange for a Freeway Service Patrol unit to come and assist you. You've probably seen FSP units before without even realizing it...they use minivans, pickup trucks, and SUVs with yellow light bars on top.

DPS operates this service as a way of freeing up their officers for police-related duty, while still having the ability to assist stranded motorists. I believe the FSP is available 18 hours a day, so after that you'd likely get an officer at your location.

When the FSP arrives at your scene, the crew member can provide basic assistance (changing a tire, diagnosing simple mechanical problems, arranging a tow) and I understand they also have bottled water, first aid, and fire extinguishers on board as well.

So to answer your question, yes, this service does exist. And yes, it is a very nice thing to have. :-)

Nope, I was in our older Taurus. Transmission went out on it, so I probably will just be getting a new one anyways.

Thanks guy's, I will definitely program that number into my phone. I guess I just never thought they would be nice enough to do something like that but I guess it does benefit them too. We have emergency assistance on the new car but not the old one. Hopefully I will never get stuck on the road again! but if I do I will definitely try that number.
