Alert | I had my warning letter waiting for me when I got back yesterday from vacation. They only listed my license plate and date/time but did not indicate what the offense was for. My carpool partner and I clearly recall there were no warning signs up, so there was no way they could have given me a legal ticket anyways.
I don't dispute I was speeding, but I do agree the photo radar is is more about revenue generation than safety. In my case, I got caught as I was just coming out of RED during a traffic break in the morning commute. There were no cars around me and I was in the right lane... hard to dispute I was doing anything dangerous.
KHarless - I've driven behind you a few times on the morning commute and we tend to drive about the same relaxed rate and style... but there is no doubt that virtually everyone exceeds the speed limit (even you, ). I'm definitely more concerned about the excessive speeders, tailgaters, and aggressive drivers rather than somebody passing me going 5-10mph faster.

Alert | Really? I was speeding?
Then I hope I get a ticket!

Alert | | Once you see the sign at 75+ mph it's too late, they have your picture. Stay within the speed limit and you will not be waiting nervously at the mailbox each day. I love photo radar and so does my family. | | 25th Infantry Division <---- Tropic Lightning

There is usually a guy sitting inside the explorer. I bet he's a employee of RedFlex. Which means a non -peace officer giving tickets. Interesting.. Today people slowed down to 40 in a 55 when they approached this loser in the SUV. Photo radar causes more problems than it solves.

This is a ridiculous comment celltech. What if the SUV was empty and just photographing speeders, would the ticket be valid? It doesnt matter who is manning the vehicle. | | 25th Infantry Division <---- Tropic Lightning

The problem being what is the speed limit? ADOT has made a great little speed trap by changing it 3 or 4 times and then conveniently leaving out speed limit signs all together coming into town. From the Casa Blanca interchange what is the speed limit? If it is based on the last sign it is 55mph. Try going 55. It's a great way to get run over.

Alert | | Yeah, I am curious as well. I have tried to stay around 55 mph around there and get passed a million times. If they were really looking out for the public's safety, they would have speed limit signs up around there. Instead, they have made it more confusing, costing many people who normally don't speed money, cuz they might think the seed limit is 65 when it is really 55. This just provides more evidence that the cameras are in place to make money, and they will never get mine.

Alert | I e-mailed ADOT about a week and a half ago about the speed limit on SR 347 just south of the Casa Blanca Road light. There have been numerous posts about the ambigious speed limit in this area, and here's the response I received from ADOT on 1/11:
"The intersection of SR 347 @ Casa Blanca Road is currently under construction for the installation of a traffic signal. Per the plans, two 65 mph signs are to be installed south of the intersection facing southbound traffic. They will be installed within one week. The speed limit is 65 mph on southbound SR 347 between Casa Blanca Rd and the 55 mph speed zone entering the City of Maricopa."
Pretty much states what we've assumed to be true all along. However, they didn't comment to my asking why Mobile Enforcement Vehicles were being placed along this stretch and how they've been negligent in posting signs advising of a "Photo Enforcement Zone".

Alert | | From what was told to me by an officer is that if they cant see your face they cant give you a ticket. So if you wear a mask they cant prove it is you. Same with visors and such. Not sure about the hat and glasses thing though.

Alert | This is not true. They can simply issue the "ticket" to the person who owns the car, which gives them several options:
1) Admit guilt, pay the fine 2) Admit guilt, take driving school 3) Write in who actually did it
If you don't respond, they have the option of serving you with a real ticket and hauling you into court. There you can explain to the judge if you were actually driving the car at the time or not. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | Just an FYI on Red light photo radar (not sure if it applies to speeding)
If you get a photo radar - just go to the class if that is an option. I paid a ticket (Red light Violator) and the MVD made me go to TTS (Traffic Survival School) regardless of paying the ticket. (Or your license will be suspended, yada yada yada)
Also... I learned at lights where there is photo radar, they have made the yellow light shorter by 3 seconds, so you are almost guaranteed to get a ticket if you try to make it through a yellow! So, Slow down... everywhere you go!
