Hubby called to say that police are pulling over drivers this morning for cutting through the ACE parking lot. Just wanted to pass the word along.

...and yet people still continue to zip through there at CRAZY speeds.

Thank you Maricopa P.D.

Why would you want to warn us. It is illegal and everybody that partakes in it should be ticketed. Why? Because everybody knows they are breaking the law when they do it. Did hubby get a ticket?

Maybe with the warning, people will think twice before they decide to cut through the parking lot at 500 M.P.H.

Are they actually giving tickets for cutting through a parking lot or for excessive speed in a parking lot? I think the problem is the speeds at which people are driving in all of the parking lots here in Maricopa. I've seen some really crazy stuff. I hope they are not issuing tickets for just driving through there. I live in CF and if I need to go to the Basha's lot, I will drive though one to get to the other. Just seems safer than pulling onto JWP when you don't have to. Ya know?

I believe that the ticket is typically 'Bypassing a traffic control device' or something similar. The parking lots are for parking. The more people that use it (at any speed), the more dangerous it becomes for the pedestriians. Not bashing ya jersey

Tickets for cutting trough Ace parking lot? I would like to know what is the boundry lines/conditions for cutting thru? For example if I am at the urgent care and I want to go to chase bank and I cut thru Ace parking lot to get there, is this a ticketed offense? What about I live at CF and I need to go to urgent care and I go through ace is this a ticketed offense? Bull$hit........ That is abuse of power.

I believe you are on the defense for another reason possibly Eagles? I don't expect that they typically set up stake outs during business hours when it would not be advantageous to cut through. And please don't curse. If you change the S to a $, it's obviously intended as a curse word.

The ticket is given if the parking lot is used to avoid a traffic control device, usually people using the center to avoid waiting at a traffic light. In your example no ticket would be given since urgent care and Ace are in the same connected complex.

Parking lots are not designed to be alternate travel routes that is why the ticket is given

well they should have been on the 347 giving the guy in the purple hhr a ticket for reckless driving, speeding, driving in shoulder ect...

actually, I do believe this is a ticketable offense, but since i"m not a cop, I can't say for sure. But by using this parking lot to bypass the highway and traffic lights, you are breaking the law (as far as I understand it)

Again, since i'm not a cop, I can't say for sure, but I think that this is not a ticketable offense. you are doing business in that parking lot area, not using it only for a traffic detour. And if you live in CF and are using businesses in that lot, then that's the best way to access them.

I don't know what the tickets are being issued as....but whatever it is, it seems to be helping. The cars go much much slower when the police car is right behind them.
VZuniga.... yup 500 MPH....when they go that fast they can make it over to the bus stops at CF in time to get pulled over by the motorcycle cop that hangs out over there. :-) tee-hee.

Go MPD....

"If you turn through the lot, you desire to meet a cop!"

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

Because the ticket is stupid and the cops should be spending their time catching the drunks driving from Harrahs, or the idiots driving on the shoulder to turn right at Riggs in the morning. For the record, I wasn't speeding. And who is to say I wasn't going to the bank? Looks like the department is just looking for ways to get money to pay for all the new officers.

The fee for cutting through a parking lot is $175 even if you are not speeding. The fee for speeding 66-70 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone is $135. So if you cut through a parking lot (not speeding), also being the only car around, it is a bigger offense than speeding? Kind of ridiculous.

Like others have said, it's for bypassing a traffic control device. They can't ticket for speed, because there are no speed limits on private property.

I wonder, how are they figuring out who is cutting through and who is using it to for legitimate reasons? Let's say I went to RadioShack from RED, so I enter on the far south side of the lot. Then I go to exit on the far north side. I haven't bypassed any traffic control devices, but will I get a ticket?

The tickets are for cutting through the parking lot, NOT SPEEDING.

Also, which traffic control device are they bypassing, is it that they're entering the Basha's lot to bypass Smith-Enke? How do they distinguish from someone who actually went through the Smith-Enke light, went through the lot and then goes to turn out from Cobblestone?

Exactly.....it's all about perception and what the officer thinks you were trying to do. Today's stakeout was in front of ACE Hardware.
