Alert | | Just Curious. Might have a job opportunity coming up in about 6 months to a year that would change my hours. I am currently 6-2:30 which allows me to avoid the rush. New position would bump pay approx 20k but put me to 8-4:30. This is a central Phoenix commute. Think 20k is worth getting into rush hour? Or maybe use the 20k to get closer to PHX and avoid 347 forever! How bad is it anyways? Been doin 6-2:30 for last 5 years from Copa. | | Pizzaking Wasnt a member 0 posts

Alert | | Just to clarify: Is the 20K is in addition to what you have now? or is the pay is your new annual salary?

Alert | | Hey Pizzaking, I have been doing 6 to 4 since January. My commute from 24th and Camelback to Maricopa usually begins at about 4:15 and takes about an hour (20 minutes or so on 347). I can recall a few times that I did the 8 am thing and I dont recall any major issues but, again, that assumes no accidents or construction or broken traffic lights. Where I did run into a ton of traffic was on the I-10 north. Im not sure where you are heading but it does get more crowded on I-10 later in the am. I dont think that you will see much difference with these hours with respect to 347. For extra 20K, I think it is worth it.

Alert | If you are going into DT Phx, you need to consider the I-10 too. Not only do you have the 347 to contend with, but the I-10 between Chandler Blvd and the Broadway curve can also be a total pain in the butt.
If the $20K is going to bring you and your family a better quality of life and you can deal with AZ drivers without losing it, perhaps the new job is worth a look. Who knows- maybe after you get your feet wet, they will be more flexible with your hours and you can 'work around' the commute time.
If you do decide to take the new job - make sure you leave in good standing...2 weeks notice or whatever is customary in your field. If the new job doesn't work out - then perhaps you can go back to the old one.

Alert | The drive is not as bad as everyone says. I work off Mesa dr. and the 60. I leave at 7:30 and it usually takes 45min to 1hr. AS LONG AS YOU STAY AWAY FROM THE STEELER FAN IN THE BLACK EXPEDITION YOU SHOULD BE O.K.

Alert | No offense Cracker...Mesa Dr/60 is not the same as dt Phx. He's got more to consider than just the 347.
Does the Expeditiion moron have an AZ or CA plate?

Alert | I would take the money and run..closer to the job. 347 is only going to get worse. It used to take me 45 minutes to get to Elliot and Hardy and now it takes 1.25 hours or longer!

Alert | if your family is okay with you spending more time in traffic and you're able to handle it, then i say go for it. 20K/year, what do you think?
let say you add on an additional hour to each way of commute (hope that you don't have no gridlock), do you think it's worth it? | | i don't like people who uses "signature" on their profile. TAKE IT OFF!!!

Alert | | It is really not that bad. I work 7-4 downtown phx and it takes me 50 minutes. If you can find someone to carpool with, it really isn't bad at all. The I-10 is far worse than the 347. I am sure you could negotiate working 7:30-4 instead and that would help a lot.
