Remember all the "Let's put another road to I-10 over the Reservation" comments? Well - this is the Gila River Indian Community's response to a dirt road WITH an agreement since 1933...

http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=18797759&BRD=1817&PAG=461&dept_id=68561&rfi=6

Don't count on any agreements for a second major arterial out of Maricopa in our lifetimes! I love the air pollution and illegal dumping reasoning. I'd venture to say more natives dump their trash on the Reservation than others.

"I'd venture to say more natives dump their trash on the Reservation than others. "

But they are allowed to do it, because its there land. If we want the land, then we need to cough something up for them in return.

Personnally, I think they should look into hiring a private toll company and place a private toll accross their land and charge $2 each way.

How about a tunnel? Can we dig a 16 mile long tunnel to I-10? The English and French did it with the "Chunnel". I have two shovels and a wheelbarrel if anyone wants to help.

That might work. Just don't get the guy who made the "Big Dig".

I can put in a few hours on Saturday's!!

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

So are they thinking that only people that participate in illegal dumping, have air-polluting vehicles (i.e. older non-smoggable cars) and "other negative impacts" are the type of buyers looking for BRAND NEW houses?! Come on, I can understand not wanting to give up land for other reasons say, to protect the natural habitat for an endangered animal/plant, but to say that new development will bring "negative impacts" is not a very good excuse on their part. The toll road idea makes more sense if they would even consider it.

double deck 347,,,,</div>

Yeah, based on the fine, fine job that ADOT has been doing with the repaving of the 347... Imagine what a double deck project would entail! [/sarcasm]

lmao! well, so much for that idea, thanks Jason for bringing that one up! This whole 347 traffic is just a freakin joke, I mean at this point, all I can do is laugh at the idea that Maricopa would ever get any kind of real relief sometime this decade <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/wink.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Wink' align='absmiddle'> <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/laugh.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Laugh' align='absmiddle'> <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/hehe.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='HeHe' align='absmiddle'> <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/crazy.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Crazy' align='absmiddle'>

The 347 will be the only road for next 10 years maybe more. I am not joking, the only thing that can help the people living here all ready would be for them to stop building houses until they get the money to add more roads.

But that makes to much sense so It will not happen. I'm thinking I made a big mistake. We won't be called the mistake by the lake, but the mistake by the (You fill it in)

Possible solution to the 1 road in 1 road out issue.

Make 347 35 mph throughout the whole town borders, add photo radar every 50 yards, do nightly DUI checks northbound from Harrah's AK-Chin, make it a real pain for anyone to use the casino. Watch how Ak-Chin influences Gila River to improve traffic flow.

Just a thought.

and stick a toll booth ($10) on Maricopa Rd, right before the casino.....if you're going to Harrahs you pay.

I think Kharkless is onto something - Except for the fact that the Gila River Casino's would probably benefit from that since people would just go there instead which would limit their willingness to cooperate. All that would do is hurt the Ak-Chin when we have plenty of access through their land. They're so much smaller than Gila River that they probably wouldn't have all that much pull

Although if the city officials were smart - they would talk to the Ak-Chin tribal leaders and ask them if they have any influence and get them to help out with influencing road development. That would help them too since Harrah's is just as isolated as Maricopa is.

Good thought, in fact, we should try to focus our efforts in another direction! Ak-Chin isn't really that far off the "beaten path" and although it would not be direct access to I-10, couldn't we get pretty much where we're going through Ak-Chin land?! It may add a few minutes to the standard commute, but it would seem worth it given less traffic.

Just a thought! Never drove further than Vekol Market, so I couldn't truly say one way of the other. But, all ideas should be explored at this point, don't ya think?

Then, maybe, Harrah's could get a lot more traffic and a lot less isolation!

The funny thing is, you drive through some of those res towns etc and they are run down, dilapadated and their roads suck. And yet they complain to us about their own defaults. Why can't we tell them not to drive on our roads???? I also feel like all you people could talk and complain about 347 until you are blue in the face, unfortunately NOTHING will happen <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/sad.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Sad' align='absmiddle'>
