It took one hour to go from riggs rd to maricopa last night, at about 10:30pm
They were paving the right lane, it's great that its getting done, but could they have started later?
traffic was basically single lane from riggs to maybe 4 miles from maricopa.

meanwhile traffic on north bound lane was almost non existent

a sign could have placed before riggs advising on the delay, I could have taken I-10 to casa blanca rd instead
if I had known of the delay

I've found that there is no GOOD time for this stuff to get done. I get off of work in Chandler around midnight, and I've been held up by the paving project then too, when of course, all I want is to get home and get to bed. I imagine that doing it later in the evening like that, after rush hour traffic, is the lesser of the evils since less people are travelling at that time. unfortunatly for people like us, we get stuck in it.

Is it just me or do "you guys" understand that they need 8 hours (in a shift) to get the job done. SO by these post If 10:30 Is too early and they should start later then what at 12 am then it would effect YZ (can I use you as an example?)Then if they started at 1am it would bleed into 9 am and the morning commute is now effected. SO In order to please the masses(and yes that means the morning commuters, the needs of the many out way the needs of a few)they have to start at 8p-ish to be done by 4 am-ish. They are not going to please EVERYONE so they have decided to please the majority. What that means is if you are among the minority and travel 347 on those roads you are basically SOL and while I do understand your frustration...it isnt going to change ...until Nov. 1 when they are done and outta here.

i agree with you stinkerbell, don't get me wrong. i totally understand the times they use. my hubby is thankful that it usually doesn't affect him, as he is a morning commuter (like most "normal" people). it is gonna effect someone, and the fewer the better, so the middle of the night commuters (like myself), just need to be patient (which I try to be )

I am all for the repairs, and I understand the timing issues, a sign would be nice letting people know that the delay is one hour or more, and that they have an alternate route if they wish to take.
the sign can be a riggs road, or I10

the freeway over head sign on I10 just says:

"road sign test"
they could be changed, ADOTS 511 recording said one lane closed 347 NORTH BOUND from 1 mile north of 238 to 1 mike south of riggs road.
THE PROBLEM WAS SOUTHBOUND.......

If ADOT had a brain they would use the 2 northbound lanes for southbound traffic during certain times. When coming south toward Maricopa have cones and lights directing traffic towards the northbound lanes. Have one lane on the southbound side going north with cones of course. They could have that road done by now if they used some common sense.

they have a sign, it says to expect delays during construction until 10/26. its not like they just started construction yesterday <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/rolleyes.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Rolled Eyes' align='absmiddle'>

I thought there was an article said that they moved the paving from during the day because of the delays, to 7:00 pm to 4:00 am. Yes, it is a pain, but it needs to be done. I don't know what other time you could do it.

This whole road improvement project is based on budget.

If all of you think for one minute that the 347 is going to be completed by the end of October like the Message Boards say, then I feel sorry for you. HWY 347 will be under Construction for 3 years. I have been out here since 1984,and I can reassure you that nothing was done until 1991,and this asphalt company is obviously looking to their own agendy.

Prepare to be delayed, regardless of time, preference, shift. We are going to be stuck.

I travel this road at 0245 and have been delayed, as all of you will, weather it's 4qm, 5pm,6pm, etc....

I was stuck in that flippin mess too and I guess my biggest question is why is it necessary to go down to one lane starting just after Riggs when they're not even working on road until way past M mountain? Doesn't seem a bit excessive? All I can say is it's a HUGE waste of gas that's for sure. The driver info screen said my average speed home last night was 37mph. So sad!!!

I just want to clarify: i am not complaining at all. i know it has to be done, and while of course i don't like my already long commute in the middle of the night to be longer, i'd rather it be me and the very few on the road at that time, then the thousands of traditional time commuters.
while i don't condone the behavior at all, it is kind of amusing during my drive home to watch the drunk idiots weave in and out of the cones, usually hitting a few. thank goodness I have my iPod!

As ADOT told me last week when I was caught in traffic, the new schedule is 7pm to 5am. They will do 3 night of south, then move over and do 3 nights of north. Of course, my only question was, how I got caught in traffic if it doesn't start until 7 and traffic was already backed up to the cultural center at 7:05pm??

The lady was very nice and said how she didn't think that was possible. I said, well it only took me 1 hr and 15 min to get to Riggs, 1 hr and 45 min to get home. She said she would let the forman know that it was unacceptable to start earlier than 7pm. Now I race home so that I don't take the chance of getting caught in it again.

I was caught up in it from 10-11pm last night also. I was near empty when I got onto the 347, thinking it would be no problem to make it home. Then when I hit the construction jam. I started to get a little nervious. Luckily I made it! But I was sweating for sure.

I wasn't complaining or contemplating. Just stating what I read.
