Hi - post #2 & Still venting...

There have been been numberous times when Children & Adult are tring to Cross Smith Enke at the Villages or to get to school at Santa Rosa and no one stops, it like a freeway of crazy Maricopians.
I have seen two near miss incidents... What will it take before someone dies tring to cross the road???
A couple of Pedestrian crossing on the road would be a nice start?
Stop signs and cross walk would be next...

A trafic light...
Hope & Pray

Pedestrians should go down to the light at 347 and cross. Yes, I know it's a long walk, but it is the safest thing to do, for everyone.

The School or the District should look into this - not that I really expect that, but kids on the south side of Smith-Enke that attend school at Santa Rosa should either be bused or there should be a crosswalk and a crossing guard to get them to school safetly. I've never seen a place that didn't take those kinds of issues into consideration when they set school boundaries.

As for a traffic like, we can't even get the one on Honeycutt at the High School turned on so I don't see that comming anytime soon.

Basically, its going to take some heartbreaking incidences for this school district to get its head on straight and take our children's safety seriously.

Short of installing a raised crosswalk, they need to start busing them. Adding a traffic light will only cause more headaches, more backups and more accidents.

Niice.
If it is an area where children walk through often, let's get some parents together and see about getting a crosswalk guard, a stopsign or a light.
Jason is a lot of fun, but we all know that pedestians ALWAYS have the right of way, even when they jaywalk.
We should work on not letting the kids have the oppertunity for uneeded danger. If they walk a regular route, we should look at their walk and see if it reasonable.

Install stop signs on Smith Enke. Drop the speed limit to 25 mph, hire a crossing guard and paint crosswalks.

If I remember correctly, neither the city or school would step up to do it. I had a friend contact both the city and district and they kept pointing fingers as to who needed paint it. This was back when Santa Rosa was the only Elem.

crosswalks are in short supply throughout maricopa, something i quickly realized when i didn't have a driver's license. i think it is a damned shame, considering the huge number of kids in this town.

The reason those kids are not bussed, is because that area is not a part of the Santa Rosa boundry. The school those kids can be bussed to is Santa Cruz in Tortosa. Santa Rosa has given boundry exceptions to some kids that were already attending and didn't want to change schools, but it was made clear to the parents they were resposible for transportation to the school.
That being said, I still wish something could be done for those kids whose parents still let them ride their bikes or walk. I would HATE to see an accident happen!

I heard they were finally installing a traffic liight on Smith Enke and the main entrance to VRED but it won't be done until this time next year. This is our typical crappy city and state government at it's best. This light should of been put in yesterday, there is no reason it should take almost a year. They also could easily add another left hand turn lane onto Smith Enke from JWP, the lane is already there, but that is too big of a problem for our useless city and state government.

They are who we thought they were!

Sounds like we don't need to do anything but get on the cases of the parents. If these kids have exceptions for now then in a few years the problem will work itself out. It would be HORRIBLE to see something bad happen but if the parents are responsible they should take responsibility and not push that responsibility on the city and everyone that drives down this road by installing traffic lights that are not needed.

Well I Am One Of The Parents With A Child Who Goes To Santa Rosa On A Boundary Exception And I Will Say That I Drive My Child To And From School Every Day, I Also Had To Apply For The Boundary Exception After His Kindergarten Year Because I Didn't Feel It Was In His Best Interest To Bounce Him To 2 Different Schools While They Figured Out Which School They Wanted Our Children To Go To While They Also Decided When Our School ( In The Villages)Would Be Built. That Said I Also Have Witnessed Several Close Calls From Kids And Adults Trying To Cross That Street In The Morning For School, On The Weekend And In The Evenings. So It Is A Community Problem That Needs To Be Addressed And God Forbid There Is A Traffic Light Installed To Slow Anyone Down From Hitting There 65 MPH Minimum On Smith Enke.
