I don't know who to complain to ADOT or our City Leaders that can't get their Head out of their you know what! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr!!!!!!

Why don't you just plan on going through Casa Grande on Val Vista for a couple of weeks? It will take you an extra 20-25 minutes or so. GET OVER IT. Jeesh.
Why isn't the city doing anything... Hmmm does the term Arizona Department Of Transportation mean anything? The city has no jurisdiction - that is a state agency. Call them if it will make you feel better.
Look through the old forum threads and everyone was b*tching about when are they going to fix 347. Well they ARE fixing it. Did you think it would happen overnight. How about they just close the road for a month or so and get it all done? Would that make you happier?

It is happening overnight! Seriously, this is exactly what people cried out for, overnight work only. Well, that's what they're doing. | | Joined: Jul 2005

I'll rephrase... Did you think it would happen in one 24 hour period? Yes, it is being worked on overnight at the request of the citizenry.

Alert | | Fritzy....Bobbybrown just blowing off some steam after a horrible commute yet again this morning. Give her a little slack. 2 hour commutes in the morning are now not all that uncommon. We all know the city says it's an ADOT issue, or a Tribe issue, but the bottom line 90% of all the drivers stuck on that road are Maricopans that are spending more time on the 347 than with their families! So let us vent a little!

People have a right to bitch. ADOT posted the hours they were "supposed" to work on the 347 and are not following them. The hours they posted were setup so that they would "not interfere with rush hour". These guys are setting it up whenever they want and not giving people a heads up. After the fiasco this morning with the accident and this crap tonight people should be pissed.

I could not agree with Fritzydoodle more.
I do, however, question working on the southbound lanes in the afternoon/evenig. I was under the impression that southbound work would be done in the morning and northbound would be done in the afternoon/evening to take advantage of the reverse commute hours. I was caught in this mess this evening. (I did enjoy watching the lightning while stuck in the traffic) When I got to the construction area, there was a great dust storm. I had an ADOT flagman stop me and let a truck get onto the road. Man, I felt bad for him. I watched him suck in a HUGE dust breath. He did not look like a happy camper for that.
I just wish ADOT would be consistant on their time schedule. I do know that this impovment will make my car very happy after its completion. I don't mind the extra pain for the ultimate gain. | | Let X=X

You must not have to compute into town everyday. They were suppose to work on the southbound lanes from 4 AM to 1 PM so they would be done during rush hour. And yes the city can do more to defend its residents. Once the city heard they were doing construction during rush hour they should've got on the phone with ADOT and defend it's residents. But since most of them don't have to compute into town everyday they have no idea what some of us have to go through. So your telling me to get over it, I say you better lay off!

Alert | You are correct. My commute is now to CG each day. HOWEVER... I lived through commuting to 24st and Camelback the entire year plus it took to make 347 four lanes back in the 80's. At that time - it was ONE lane of traffic for both directions with pilot cars. Two hours each way every day was the norm.
And the SR51 was under construction at the same time - so not only did I sit through Maricopa Road - I had that construction too.
My point - if there is an alternate route - why continue to complain about the long delays - take the alternate, know exactly how long it will take you each day - turn the radio up, sing alone, and relax!

Alert | | "Take the alternate?" You've got to be kidding. There is no alternate.......going 10-15 miles in the opposite direction, is this really an alternate. I spent an extra 45 minutes going the wrong way on your "alternate" trying to get to the 10 yesterday. Fritzy I see your side as well, there are just a lot more cars now. However, the 347 is key to Maricopas success. If this road shuts down every time there's an incident, no one will move here. How about an alternate toll road for cars only? Bring this up with City officials and they will tell you, we've got to bring jobs here so people stay. OK fine, that's about 20-30 years away. In the real world most of us have to commute on this POS very day.

Now whose fault is that? The route is valid and most certainly is an alternative. I agree, there should have been some publication that they were switching the schedule to night time. | | Joined: Jul 2005

It has been proven on several occasions that the city has very little pull with ADOT. If more citizens had actually gone to published meetings with ADOT officials, maybe there would have been more outcry against night time only work. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is how a majority of work is accomplished in the Valley: at night. Perhaps all we've got here are a handful of residents that are just going to have to suck it up for another couple of months? | | Joined: Jul 2005

An alternative would be a few miles away.....not a different county. OK that's all we have, but if you need to take the alternate your basically screwed.

In the real world, this alternate toll road will not happen in our foreseeable future. Why? Because unless the toll road starts at Maricopa - heads due west to Mobile and cuts up to west Phoenix at that point, the Gila River Indian Reservation stands in your way. And at this point in time, there is no incentive for them to put a road cutting across their land.
This isn't me crying wolf. Get out a map and try and figure a route that connects to I-10 that doesn't involve tribal land. There is none other than Val Vista or Montgomery Road to the east. No route exists to develop another road.
And if you think a negotiated roadway is set in stone, may I remind everyone of the Pima Road fiasco in Scottsdale a few years back. If the reservation owns the road, they can close the road.
You knew when you moved to Maricopa the limitations for ingress/egress. I suggest spending a few hours on the weekend and learn the alternative routes. You will be taking them on a fairly regular basis. Be thankful the developer along Val Vista paved that road. It used to be dirt to Pinal Ave!
I'm not being the naysayer. I'm being realistic. Maricopa is landlocked to Phoenix and will remain landlocked to Phoenix. There is (unfortunately) only one direct route.

Alert | well,
complaining about it... isn't going to change the fact that it is going to take awhile to get done.
<---complained enough.. trust me...
In the long run, we will have nice smooth roads to drive 85- 90 miles an hour on. (I don't drive that fast... but others do!) | | Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem. ______________________________________ *************************************** San Diego Super Chargers! GO!!! Alert | | OK then what happens if the population down here keeps going up? If we're having issues now, can you imagine what things will be like with even more cars? I have to hope there's a plan B. Could'nt we do a toll road alongside where the 347 is now? And give the proceeds back to ADOT and Gila River? Or have a trucks only road alonside? Possible?? Or am I clueless?
