Alert | | I just wanted all of you to know about how our bus drivers are driving. Today, while sitting in traffic on the 347 because of the accident at Riggs, Bus #67 took it upon himself to drive about 35mph down the shoulder on the right side of the 347. Not only did I get my first chip in my windshield, but I also got a pin hole in my radiator. Thank GOODNESS for EZ-Stop for radiator leaks!! I'm sure I'm not the only one who got pelted, but I've already called the Kyrene School District Bus Supervisor. He was suprised and shocked. He asked about my vehicle, but I told him I've aleady plugged the whole in the radiator and I could careless about the windshield since I figure I'll get many more chips during construction. So, if your child rides bus #67, you may want to ask your child to BUCKLE UP, because apparently the bus driver only cares about getting the kids to school and not there safety!!

Alert | | Stinkerbell, I stand corrected on the seatbelts. My wife wondered why I stated that and is now questioning if I rode the SHORT BUS where they do have seat belts.

Alert | That is crazy!!! Yes education is important but really even if they were a couple hours late, better late then injured if the bus would have went off the side of the road and down the embankment. I think that bus driver should be fired!!!!

Alert | Thank you for posting the bus number. My wife saw the same this morning and did not get the bus number, but reported it to Kyrene School District anyway. It just takes a little pothole on the side to slide the bus into the ditch. I hope parents of children riding that bus see this and make their voices heard.

Alert | wow I think I saw the same bus. I tried to get the number but I was so horrified that they were riding on the side I couldn't follow after him. I was just before the Rinker light and I was sitting for about 10 min and I saw a bus fly by on the shoulder and it was full of little kids. They were mostly standing up and falling all over the place. The bus was actually on the shoulder and part of the dirt! It was also in one of the areas where the dirt wasn't flat it was it a ditch! I actually prayed that they wouldn't tip in the gully. I was sooo angry what an idiot!
Thanks for calling Coild1 I hope he gets repremanded.

Alert | OMGosh!!! I knew I should have called Kyrene the other day! This same bus had been pulled off the side of the road and then he comes up to the I-10 in the right lane and cuts off cars to get all the way over into the turn lane!!!
I'm calling in the morning!

Alert | Niiice. There is no excuse for this. I hope the kids made it to school safely and I hope the 'driver' was fired on the spot. (Or at least removed from duty pending an investigation) I am also glad people called and love the fact that bus #67 was identified. Nice work to everyone involved. | | Let X=X

Alert | really stupid question to the forum monitors: Why is it OK to post the bus numbers, but against the rules to state license plate numbers?

Alert | | Wow! I asked both of my kids about it. They are on different buses but said they saw whoever the driver was and were wondering what they were doing driving up the side of the road. My daughter also said they are always in front of her bus and that once they hit the 347 the bus takes off. She said her bus driver even noticed. She thinks it is the Lagos bus that picks up in RED. What part of personal business is giving a bus number? We have no way to track that to a person just a school district. A license plate is directly related to a person. Thanks to whoever provided this because I would definately want to know if my child was on that bus!!!

Alert | The Supervisor of the bus driver called me late yesterday and had already talked to the driver. The driver did admit he was driving on the shoulder and understood and knew it was illegal, but apparently had two sick children on the bus and wanted to get them to the school nurse ASAP. The Supervisor did tell me that she informed her driver that he made the wrong choice and he should have pulled over and called for assistance.
As for posting the Bus #, I feel every parent of a child on that bus has the right to know what's going. Everyone knows that the should has a slope between Rinker and Riggs and if that bus had gone off the shoulder, it would have been a disaster.

Setting aside for the moment that this was very unsafe, I do not believe that there is a line denoting that as a shoulder. They've repaved it and I think they forgot to mark a shoulder line. In that case, it is not illegal in the sense that it's a shoulder. Illegal in the sense that it was highly dangerous, yes. But until they stripe it, it's not a shoulder. An important clarification that could mean the difference between a ticket sticking or not. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | Whether or not he can get out of a ticket means nothing to the children on that bus! If I were the parent of one of those kids I wouldn't give a shoot if he got a ticket or not, I would care if he was driving my child again the next day however considering he has poor decision making skills and my childs life is in his hands on hells highway. So there were 2 sick kids on the bus (probobly motion sickness from the wild ride) and that driver made a choice to put the safety of a bus full of children, some of them standing, on the line so 2 kids can get to the school nurse faster? Bull ship! Not an acceptable excuse!

That is so funny Jason. I was driving home yesterday looking at that shoulder and thinking "I bet Jason would say that it is legal because there is no line!!". This is bad. However, if there is no line denoting a shoulder, doesn't that mean that the bus is passing vehicles within their lane???
