I took I-10 to Casa Blanca , tried to go through U or P farms of which they had people there blocking the road, got back onto Casa Blanca and made it through to 347 they just barely had a police officer there directing traffic. I-10 was backed up though to Casa Blanca, VERY BADLY. Your best bet is renting a helicopter or plane HA HA ! Good luck. It is prob 50/50 either way Casa Grande or / Casa Blanca. I have been home for about 30 min now.

Yeah, I am glad to hear NO ONE WAS HURT!

The thing is, the ratio of the trucks and the brakes are the same as cars. Yeah, they got a ton of weight to stop, but they have 18 wheels (most of the time) with drum brakes the size of your tires.. sometimes bigger! haha

the only person that knows what happened was the driver.. maybe wasn't paying attention? Watching a dust devil in the distance.. who knows.. But its sad when it turns out like that.

Lets make Riggs and OVERPASS!

How do you figure the ratio is the same? Different cars have different stopping distances even if they are the same size.

On average a loaded semi takes twice the distance to stop as a car does. At 60mph the average distance is 426 feet (over a football field). Combine that with the crappy condition of the 347 and the fact that most of the trucks are traveling at 75 mph to keep up with the auto traffic this distance easily increases to over 600 feet or 2 football fields.

If you drove by the truck this morning you could see that the truck slid on its side for more than 50 feet before coming to a stop.

I have a CDL- facts pulled from statistics out of license materials

I agree with this- all the roads that hit the 347 between I-10 and Maricopa (Riggs- Casa blanca- Rinker Entrance- Reservation Road at M Mtn.- & Road for Ghila River and Firebird) should be overpasses. This has been done in the Prescott area on a loop road and it has greatly improved traffic flow.

They also need to make the 347- I-10 ramp wider with two turn lanes or a non stop ramp

I think the accidents are pretty well distributed. For the number of big rigs travelling that road, I think they are in very few of the accidents.

Yes, which is surprising, since I've seen so many drivers act like their big rig is a sports car.

Whoop Whoop Whoop

Jason agreed with me!!!

Those dust devils can be really distracting when they are about 200 ft tall and close to the road....

I don't know why I am posting the direction again to get from Maricopa to Phenix using the other route seeing since there was at least 3 maps mailed out to every hosue in Maricopa as well as the map was post in one of the articles on 85239.com as well as the small news paper that is dropped off on the driveways of all of the houses as well as I have posted at least twice the driction. So here it is once again.

take 347 to NAPA. Turn to go to Casa Grande.
At Val Vista turn left to Pinal.
Take Pinal to I10 and turn left to get on the freeway.

This will take about 30 minutes more but it is better then sitting in traffic for 2 hours.
Do the reverse to get home.

I am sorry I have to comment... The "Sysadmin" is totally rude. You work for this website. We are the people keeping you and your website/publication in business. If you have to give someone directions 100 times, do it with a smile, it is your job. I am in management for a client relations firm and I have been appalled by the way some of the associates at your company treat your readers.

Oh well then I guess you can say whatever you want. I bet you don't HAVE to keep providing directions. Let the morons figure it out themselves. :0) JKG

My husband called me about it, it sounds like the truck with all the gravel couldn't stop in time. I don't necessarily think that's related to bad driving, just not really giving himself adequate time to stop. </div>

What is the difference between not giving adequate time to stop and bad driving? When one car rearends another do you say they did not leave adequate time to stop or do you call them an idiot?

This happened about one hour after I past Riggs. Thank god no one else got hurt and that this was not some pile-on accident. I'm starting to wonder how many more body counts will it take to seek our governor's attention?

IMHO, bad driving/idiocy is a pattern of poor driving decisions. People can make mistakes you know.

Besides that there are other possible reasons:

- The driver turning began turning too soon
- The yellow was too short
- Mechanical failure
- Driver health problem
