Hey Jason, don't get me wrong buddy. I'm all for increasing the speed limit to 75MPH on 347.
Could it be? Alanf agrees that the speed limit should be higher than 65? That 75 MPH is actually safe? Yes. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Oh, I see how it is. Just have to drag me back in....
Yes, I believe the speed limit could be 75MPH on the 347, especially AFTER road repairs are complete. However COMMA I also belive that Speed Limits should be complied with (even when you think they are stupid). I think that 65-75MPH on the triple graded 347 is just plain stupid right now. Some of us have driving skills and can compensate for grade deviations. Others are inexperienced drivers and could easily follow the path of the dead police officer from a couple of weeks ago. Yes, the grading washes you to the center.... Sooooo, I stand with following POSTED (45MPH..so be it) speed limits with a maximum of 5% speedometer variance when measuring speed for ticketing purposes.
Now I am done. You have a 3 page thread and have exceeded your daily quota.

Alert | Oh come on! Who drives on the shoulder? How can you count that? And there is only a 1" difference between the unpaved and paved sections of 347. It is currently actually in better condition than before the milling. If you have issues controlling your car on the milled surface, you either need practice or need to stick to the right lane.
If they want to post officers or everyone suddenly decides to go near 45, I'll go 45. But as it stands, I'm not going to risk so much for an unreasonable limit. We can agree disagree, but I still think that in reality 45 is not safe when everyone goes ~70-75. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | On a side note, I did witness a BMW recently rummaging around in his car at 75, going back and forth between the right lane and shoulder. If he flew off the road, how many would have blamed speed for the accident, when it would have actually been not paying attention to the driving? | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | It was not a "I get to speed but you don't " post at all.
Some people need to brush up on comprehension skills. Maybe Miss Teen SC could hold a tutoring session! (j/k, by the way!)
Beth, Beth, Beth. Your heart felt sympaty for Jason is appreciated, HOWEVER, you couldn't really been following Jason's posts for very long.
He is the consumate "Know-it-all" of Maricopa, RED and 347, who interprets the law ONLY to HIS advantage. (See Jason, I told you a couple of days ago, you'd get a reputation out here, and start being the "butt" of the jokes.)
Everyone other then the esteemed Jason is stupid, and unknowlegable about driving, in his opinion. (Read: TOO SLOW.) I cannot even begin to believe he was traveling only 45 mph! He MUST be out to make some sort of unspoken, vague point about how UNSAFE it is to do the the speed limit... I'd stake my life on it.
Stay tuned, Beth... It gets better.

Alert | | 75mph is ok for I10. No cross traffic and no way of getting on the freeway except for on on/off ramps. 347 on the other hand has 4 intersections between Maricopa and I10. It also has several others points that people can pull onto 347 in a way that would make it unsafe.

For the 4 intersections, the speed limit can be decreased. The intersections are spaced far enough apart so that wouldn't be a problem. As for the other entry points, they are all very visible and any alert driver would be able to properly act on the "reasonable and prudent" clause when the few and far between car turns onto 347 from there and slow down as needed.
